24gb is suggesting you don't have matching dimms. You did what you're never supposed to do; you added ram to a mixed up configuration.
Remove the odd-ball ram and run with the highest matching two
I'm not sure what you mean by matching dimms. If that means just matching memories, then I do, 3 of 8GB each, all identical.
That I didn't know. Can't use only 2 since my work demands more RAM, but I'll hold on playing RDR2 until I get a 4th one. Thanks!
There are 16GB DDR3 RAMs? I've never found one. Thought that was DDR4 only.
What version of Windows 7 you have?
I have a feeling it will turn out it's Home Premium.
I use Windows 7 Ultimate.
A Sabertooth Z97 Mark 1.
So if anyone has any other ideas, I'd appreciate that a lot.
Shut the pc off, take out ram. Insert two matching 8Gb dimms for a total of 16Gb.. PLENTY
PS
make sure the two are in the appropriate slots for dual-channel
Your work would benefit from a more efficient configuration that has speed, not amount. if it needs more it just goes to page file (and that's ok despite what you've heard)- which reminds me, you didn't turn off your page file did you? that's a no-no sir. Again despite what popular belief is.
You have to be careful who you listen to. There's so-called "experts" everywhere!! Stupid stuff floatin around youtube and internet!
No, I do need amount. I work on files that almost max out my RAM, the software used to crash when I only had 16GB. And page file is on.
Always refer to your manual. For anything motherboard. They recommend 1, 2, or 4 stick configs. That said, is the 1 lacking stick currently causing your BS's? Not necessarily but maybe. It could be other things. More memory is never a bad idea though.
What other games do you play? Currently RDR2 is a very demanding game. Are you overclocking or overvolting anything? The fact that this doesnt happen in any other game is apples to oranges. DIfferent games with different graphic settings, programming, algorithms, memory requirements, memory access patterns, etc,
No overclocking or overvolting. And did bluescreen a bit more often when playing on the default settings, but still do now, less often though, on reduced settings.
I play at ~55 fps most of the time, peaking at 60 fps, and going as low as 45 fps on very few areas. The BS seem to random though, since no matter the current performance it can happen. Or like last time, that it happened a few hours after I had already closed the game.
Haven't opened the game since that last time, and no BS so far.
However, some settings, when changed at all, make it so that I can't load the game at all, making the screen flicker, and only audio plays. That's another issue, but it's the reason I haven't been able to freely tweak my settings.
I'll be buying the 4th stick today, so I'll test that out. I needed the extra RAM anyway, for work. So this is alright; even if it's not the reason I BS.
