[SOLVED] "The session you are attempting to join is using incompatible assets."
SOLUTION:

Well what do you know? Rockstar was kind enough to provide the actual solution after all.

All I had to do was to open 7 ports through my firewall, so if anyone else is having this issue, just open the following ports:

UDP - 6672, 61455, 61456, 61457, 61458

TCP - 30211, 30217

GAME ON!

The title says it all because that's the error I keep getting. Today, for the first time, I invited a friend to my session after which he invited me to his session, only to both be greeted by that same error.

The only difference is that his sessions are almost always filled with people and he can matchmake in any game mode with no issues, whereas all sessions I have joined in the past few days since I entered the online section of the game, are either empty or contain somewhere between 5 to 8 people which are the same ones over and over.

I have tried everything from verifying the integrity of the game files to reinstalling it and so on.

Has anyone else encountered this particular "The session you are attempting to join is using incompatible assets." error and is there a concrete solution?

Oh, and to answer any potential questions:

- no, I have never modded the game
- my internet connection and speed are not an issue thanks to my flawless ISP (no lag/jitter/etc.)
- I've never had this issue in GTA Online even though others apparently have
- every and all other online games work perfectly and as intended
- my PC is more than decent enough to run this amazing game in which I've already spent over 500 hours

The fact that people have had this issue with GTA Online speaks for itself. Just because you didn't have it doesn't mean you can't fall victim to Rockstars ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in a different game. Every PCs different no matter how powerful or not it falls victim to bugs and issues, you'll most likely have to wait if there isn't a fix which it doesn't seem like it if other people are having this issue even in GTA Online still.

your sure about not modded the game, because this sound very much a modded problem OR your game failed to update properly but i don't see any other reasons.

a) you lie to us about modding and lie to your self "your never going to get the help you need here"
b) your game did not update like it should (update by uninstall and reinstall)
c) you did b and still can't get online (R* support)

a) As I already stated, I did NOT mod the game. I wanted to play it as the devs intended.

b) I can assure you that it did and like I said, I already reinstalled it. Twice, actually.

c) Already on hold to have a chat with them.

script kids nothing, there only "hacking" in there heads, but layman knows its just using a tool. a real hacker, yea he can do some damage with just your ip.

And how is any of this pertinent to the topic at hand?

well, take a security issue in windows it self, the game connects to someone's ip with your ip.. a true hacker can then exploit that windows security issue with the IP, meaning you gave the hacker your adress and all he needs to do is exploit past the door (windows issue) get the point.

I still don't understand how this is, in any way, related to what I'm asking.......

Again, has anyone else encountered this particular "The session you are attempting to join is using incompatible assets." error and is there a concrete solution?

It's caused by hackers.

Then why are others able to play at any given time with no issues at all while at the same time I'm constantly having the same issue over and over?

I mean I can understand this happening once, twice...ten times even. But days on end?

That's the reason I always play the game through a VPN. Everyone should do the same.

Uhm... Okay? Now could we maybe get back on track to the matter at hand? Because all of this is useless information and even though I don't like it, I fear I must repeat myself:

For the 3rd time, so that everyone hopefully understands that I don't care about script kids, hackers, VPN's and whatnot:

- has anyone else encountered this particular "The session you are attempting to join is using incompatible assets." error?

AND

- is there any concrete solution to this?

NO the reason you get this is because there are hack tool kids in the session you want to join GOTO ROCK STAR SUPPORT

It's literally impossible for them to be EVERYWHERE since A LOT of people CAN PLAY the game...

Already did. They couldn't help.

yea no surprise that R* can't help you! the other reason is probably a modder messed with your profile in earlier sessions and your now borked for some reason. maybe they now have a tool to install modded files in your game folder who knows peer 2 peer is so unsecure you basicle give the game open freedom to do what ever on your pc, so in turn a hack tool can do that too.

Uninstall the game, delete the folder that the game was installed in, RESTART THE PC before installing again, to make sure the regestry gets cleared, install the game in a different folder then you had it before! i know its really poop to be needing to do this, but i can't see if this does not help and you get the same error.

Then i'm 100% sure, your pc is infected and some "hidden" tool is actively changing game files/data on your pc, the error only comes up if your files are different then the "original online" files.

Already ahead of you. I did that 3 times in the last 2 days and nothing.

I really doubt that it's infected, but let's just presume it is. How do I, and the rest of the people in my situation, deal with this?

Also, why THIS game? Out of the hundreds of online games I've played and play, THIS is the only one with an issue...
