Missions triggering
I've been having problems with missions triggering, for example the Emmet Granger. I approach the farm and there's always a farmhand that will kill me unless I fight back. I never get to talk to or even see Granger. Going to cairn lodge just finds it empty as well.

This kind of stuff happens all the time, there's probably some prerequisite, but it's not mentioned anywhere online. Like the mayor of st. denis won't see you during the day.

Is there a list of prerequisites for missions somewhere? Walkthroughs (and wikis) are no help.

In that case - Emmet Granger is Dead.
Emmet doesn't have a farmhand, but the guys that are working is Pig Farm after this death do.... and they're not very friendly.

You either haven't started the 'Gunslinger Missions' - or they ended.

Verify Game Files - just in case something is missing or corrupted.

Could I have accidentally killed him in chapter 2? I remember wandering around that area at night at the time. This is before I got the mission, and if I did kill him (I don't remember) he didn't drop the revolver.

I'm not sure... let's see what Google Says....

Apparently if the mission isn't 'Started' (looking at his picture/reading the back) Random Tourists are working his farm, but if you begin the mission properly - Emmet is there.

I don't think you can kill him before the mission - 'cause he's not there... apparently.

I definitely didn't kill anyone if the big white circle with the question mark was there, which SHOULD happen after I get the mission, no?

One would assume so...

If you have his Mission Marker and are being killed by a Ranch Hand - something has gone whacky. Probably.
