Unable to get by auto-login by R* account and Steam - R* support are id10ts!
Anyone know how to stop Steam/R* launcher from trying to auto-login to an R* account? I've owned it on multiple platforms since it was originally launched. I purchased RDR2 via Steam recently for my Steam Deck.

When launching the game it tries to log into my ex-step-sons unverified R* account. He must have tried installing a game long ago from my Steam account that used the R* account. At the time he would have been a minor and his account never got verified. Fast forward 10 years; I no longer have contact with him or his mother. I'm trying to launch RDR2 on my Steam Deck and it's trying to automatically login to his unverified R* account. I have no been able to find a way to stop the auto-login to R* and no prompt to switch accounts.

I have contacted R* support and sent in multiple images that they have requested... such as Steam Library showing game in my Library with my Steam ID and other info.

My first email to them stated "My ex-step-son appears to have started creating a R* account linked from my personal Steam account. His mother and I got a divorce several years ago and I am no longer in contact with them. He started creating the R* account under his email xxxxxxxxxxxx@gmail.com, but it appears that he never verified the account. When I try to run RDRII from my Steam account/Steam Deck it is automatically trying to log into his R* account.

I do not know the R* account that we was trying to use. The email it would have used is xxxxxxxxxxxx@gmail.com. This is the email address that the R* Launcher is showing when I try to launch the game from my Steam account."

Their first reply was about redeeming a game CDKey in which my ticket mentioned nothing about. My issue has nothing to do in regards to redeeming anything.

I replied with additional details and screenshots. Just because GTA5 showed in the one of my library screenshots and I mentioned Steam Deck... Their next agent replied with a canned reply about Steam Deck Support for Rockstar Games is result of testing... blah blah blah going on about... it being possible to play GTA5 but not certified for that console.

Now... what the F* does GTA5 being in my library have to do with a Steam/R* account trying to auto-login??

You can only link a single R* account to steam and it's permanent. So you must recover that account and it's the only one you can use. If you have problems with r* bots then try live chat. I.e. you can find this option here https://support.rockstargames.com/categories/115001624507?step=d54531ba

So I followed this... R* is even more a group of morons. What good is this?

"The entitlements to play GTAV are tied to both the Social Club and Steam accounts. These accounts must remain linked or you will not be able to play GTAV or GTA Online with either of these accounts.

If we were to unlink your Steam account from your Social Club account, you will not be able to play GTA Online as well as GTAV with your Social Club account, even if another Steam account is linked to it afterwards.

However, if you would still like to proceed with the Steam unlink, please get back to us with the following information:

The Social Club nickname you don’t want to be linked to Steam anymore
Confirmation that you understand that unlinking the accounts will result in being unable to play GTA Online as well as GTAV with either of these accounts.

Once we have this information, we can continue with your request. We greatly appreciate your patience and cooperation during this process."

The Social Club account with the name of XXXXXXXXX is NOT my R* account in the first place. That Social Account that got attached to MY Steam account by my EX-STEP-SON who had access to my Steam account and obviously installed R* games and used his own Social Club account... THIS IS NOT MY ACCOUNT, NOR IS IT ANYONE IN MY HOUSEHOLDS. His mother and I got a divorce 6 years ago and I no longer have any contact with him.

However, my STEAM account is MY Steam account and has been for 20 years.

Why would I want to leave a R*/Social Club account that I have nothing to do with attached to my 20 year old Steam?

My Steam Account, where I purchased the game from, should be the master controlling account as MY Steam account OWNs these games. I don't care if I have to purchase GTAV again to be able to play online, but I sure as hell am not getting another Steam account to do so.

The primary issue is... I purchased RDR2 recently via Steam. When launching it; it is trying to automatically load this R* account that I have nothing to do with.

Now you are saying that if this account, that I will never have access to, is unlinked from my Steam account.... "you will not be able to play GTA Online as well as GTAV with your Social Club account, even if another Steam account is linked to it afterwards." Again, the Social Club/R* account I want unlinked is NOT MY ACCOUNT. I don't care if he can't play them with his Social Club account or link another Steam account... That is NOT my problem anymore.

All I'm trying to do is attach MY Steam account to MY R* account. I want to be able to play the games that I have purchased via STEAM either online or offline.

This is really making me wonder as to why I just don't pirate games...

The Social Club nickname you don’t want to be linked to Steam anymore - XXXXXXXX (xxxxxxxxxx@gmail.com)
Confirmation that you understand that unlinking the accounts will result in being unable to play GTA Online as well as GTAV with either of these accounts. - Yes, I F****** understand... JUST DO IT!"

No wonder people pirate games... with crap like this that we consumers have to put up with.

Ive run into the launcher not working "FAILED TO FETCH AN ESSENTIAL ASSET" (now)

different than previous "activation failed to online mode "error

I got the program to work after several hours of trying things yesterday (uninstalling the Launcher. wiping ALL the social club files on the PC, switching the DNS server to even be able to access the Social Club website etc... reinstalling the launcher which rebuilt the social club stuff) and eventually I got the social club web page to access to ask for login/user/pw .

then the game would start (as would GTA5)

today (after computer booted up) ***IT DOESN'T F^&%^&$%^& WORK any more.***

Cant do much if it wont connect.

Are they using some internal cookies or latching onto an IP that gets changed when I turn off my computer ?

Yes I see imbecility at work here

All started with their new launcher ....

REFUND DEMAND TIME is getting closer ...

I should charge them my old $500 an Hour to diagnose their crap system (its upto $4000 or more by now)

You don't follow dude. The link and key registration is ONE TIME and PERMANENT. You CAN'T unlink if you want access to these games via this steam account so stop asking them to do that. You must recover that account which was already linked. This might be upsetting news, but that's just how it works.

Well, there are some rare occasions where they might change it, but that's why you need to do live chat instead of these tickets or whatever you were doing.

Sorry, but you are incorrect... It can be unlinked without problems if you get past their initial customer service bull****. Their problem is that they can't re-attach a R* account to another Steam account. It took 8 emails, 10 images/screenshots to get them to understand that my R* account was a NEW account and had never had a Steam account attached. Once they did that I was able to finally link my Steam account to my (correct) R* account.. My R* account is now auto-logging in correctly. Tested both GTAV and RDR2 and both in single and multi-player.

Once their customer service people actually took a second to read what the issue was and determine the correct path to resolution.. it was escalated and finally corrected. It just wasted my time and theirs and should/could have been resolved with first point of contact. I worked for a long time as a customer service rep for a large corporation; I know how stuff like this can be resolved quickly.... First off they need to READ the damn ticket before hitting a canned response.

Lmao They were offering you a resolution. lol You didn't take a second to read what the resolution was and determine the correct path.

Reply to the email with the info, get previous account unlinked, attach new Rockstar account to Steam. BUSINESS AS USUAL LMFAO It could have all ended right there with that email.

That is the last email from them that actually had the info required to resolve this. That is the email that I responded to in order to get this resolved. There were about 8 more emails between this that they just did not understand. They thought that I was trying to add my Steam account to an already linked R* account. They didn't understand that my R* account was a NEW account. They were also stuck about GTAV/GTAV Online in which I never mentioned.
