You can't buy a Ticket, but you can steal a train (if you think that's cool - or need to drive one for a Daily Challenge).
There are Fast Travel Posts
You don't need a Ticket
Upgrade the Camp with a Fast Travel Post.
It'll change your life.
That's where I go on:
"Do anything with a Train" Daily Challenge day.
When I think of all the time I've spent on that last car or doing 'whatever' with a Train, I see I've gone a total of 9 miles...
Glad I'm not an Achievement Hunter...
I'm old and might not live to see that buckle...
:)
lol if its gonna take me another 2k hours to get the next 500 miles i doubt i will make it either ;) but if i do im not gonna bother redoing it 1000 miles was enough as much as i like riding trains.
p.s Im not even bothered about the gold the buckle is enough.
i recently restarted after a year and a half away, and it doesn't seem like fast travel works anymore
the icons are no longer on the map unless you're already really close to them, and even when close to them i can't open the fast travel option
So I can get on train and put the weight on accelerate key and then go have a break for about 8-10 mins. I come back to and interact a bit so as not to get kicked for being idle.
In GTA-Online long ago I used this trick, as I would go in my apartment and set my action emote to dance or something similar, put a weight on the caps lock key and it would loop the action emote and keep me from getting booted from "being idle too long"
In RDO however, using the cinematic camera mode toggle and having the horse auto-run using a waypoint marker is not enough to totally avoid what the game considers you being idle or not. It does work to a certain extent though. So for example, enable defensive mode, then get on your horse, set a way point on the map, start trotting on that red pathway. then hold V key to enter cinematic camera mode, then while on the red pathway, double tap + hold Shift key to have the horse take over from there.
So for using the train or horse where I just have to hold down one key, the method works. Now I have a means to get somewhere I need to go, and still go take a quick break for various reasons.
They work, but I do have the camp upgrade and the one in camp is best used on foot. It's almost impossible to trigger on the horse.
I use the JeanRopke map, and keep FT Posts on so I can see them all.
I rarely use the fast travel in towns anymore unless really need to. Usually I move away from a town to search for collectibles and then pop-up the camp fire and fast travel from there. As I use that more often for crafting purposes as well.
i think that is very impressive.
i've never thought about train miles until thinking about your experience.
lol
That way while one drives (I wouldn't mind doing it)
The rest of you can stand around on the train, take out Birds and other stuff while on the train, raking up the miles onboard a moving train.
I wouldn't waste time doing it right now though. Instead go get your 2X and 3X bonuses and farm RDO$ & Gold during the Halloween Events.
I think I'd rather ride around on a train. I did a few of those types of things and felt like the only one without an Aimbot down their pants was me...lol
Previously, I would 'board' at MacFarlane's, ride around to Armadillo or Tumbleweed (where the Challenge Goal usually finished), then hop off and hit the Fast Travel Post back to Camp, or whatever.
I think I'll start making the full Circuit back to MacFarlane's - and see where that gets us in the next 1000 hours. Should be a few more than '9' Miles.
:D
Thanks I always try to work on those achievement's. If im in town im on foot i send my horse away. And rather than fast travel i sometimes just ride there or use the train to get where im going.
It all adds up eventually.
I thought it said no trans online and I was happy for a while.
And in the streets, the children screamed
The lovers cried and the poets dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The church bells all were broken
And the three men I admire most
The Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died.
