RDR2 opens and closes
Not sure why it keeps doing that, back in June the game worked just fine. It started doing this back in July, and hasn't stopped since. I've removed every single mod in the game directory, I've verified files, updated my GPU drivers, made sure the game is running in DX12. Not sure what else I could possibly do.

My last resort is to reinstall the game, but I don't want to reinstall a 120GB game with 25mbps internet speeds.

Does it give you an error code or message? I am not sure if this will help, but I was having similar problems on my pc a little bit ago. I did every kind of troubleshoot, like reinstalling the game, checking integrity, changing preferences, a clean reset, etc, and what finally worked was simply creating a new account on my pc with admin controls. Similar to creating a new user on a computer, you create a new account. Windows 11, which is what I have, has some stupid ways of logging in, including requiring a microsoft email and pin. With the second account, I can just type in a regular password and now I can play my game. I would get different errors, which made it difficult to figure that out, but it eventually kept saying that I lacked privileges after the update. Not sure why it did it, but I am glad that I can play my game now.

Otherwise, you can contact Rockstar and see if they will help you out.

To determin if its just RDR2 have you played any other game and not experience this.
Could eliminate the gpu.
Out of date mod could also cause this, rdr2 had an update to RDR2 online in Sept 2022 .

No error message, just opens for a few seconds and then closes. Nothing pops up other than the rockstar game launcher. All my other games work and open perfectly fine, so no clue why this is happening.

Cheats? I don't even play online anymore. I use single player mods, and if you even know how to read, which clearly you don't. I already said I've removed all my mods from the game. Besides I've been modding single player games for over 10 years now. Pretty sure I know how to use and install mods by now..

you have no clue as to what mods can do , people really should learn how to install and remove mods before installing them , what happens to saves , settings , really depends on the mod , oh and mods are cheats , when you "mod" a game you are no longer playing it as intended by the developer, thus you're cheating the game ,
you're pretty defensive about it , so i do think you ran scripts in online , and you dont know how to reset it back to no scripthook mp cheats, thus you asking here,
i'm sure someone will show up and tell you how to clean your game so it works again , but not me , i see no reason to help someone who clearly knows all there is to know

Scripthook, and dinput8.dll have been removed from the game. Which means all mods should not be able to work properly. The only mods I've had installed into the game was Lenny's simple trainer, red dead trainer, hot coffee mod, and the kill children mod. All of which have been removed. And I don't rekon those can even be used online. And from my experience modding with GTA 5, scripthook won't allow you to play online with these mods it kicks you out. So I'd imagine it would do the same thing with RDR2. And cheats are more associated with online, not single player. No SP modder calls mods, "cheats" unless they mod online. Online modders are called cheaters.
This happens to me whenever I tried to load it from steam. Open their launcher and open it from there. Really stupid but that's how you have to do it to play.

Well I just tried that, and 20 seconds after clicking launch it just said "quitting" and it didn't launch at all. So it's safe to say something must be corrupt with the game, and not even steam can identify the corrupt file since it won't reinstall anything after verifying the files.

I guess the only thing I can do is reinstall the game, hopefully that'll fix the issue.

Sorry to hear that. I haven't played this game a lot in the past couple months but dear lord does it seem to always have a big ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bug you have to find a work around for since launch. Wish they would get their crap together. Good luck.

Yeah. kind of sucks that it's been over 24 hours since installing and it's still not even installed yet.. Hopefully it will actually work and I didn't just waste time re installing this game.

Well the game installed, and still does the same thing even though no mods are installed, and it's a clean install of the game. This is rather odd, I guess my only two options now is to delete every file in the game directory, and have steam reisntall them. If that doesn't work I guess my last option is to contact rockstar support.

Might want to try fiddling with game settings. You can lower the resolution through the launch options. Look up exactly how to do it because I don't know the whole process off the top of my head. Good luck

Well looks like the game finally works, not sure what the issue was though. It clearly wasn't mod related because I uninstalled all my mods, including files related to my mods. But I guess deleting a bunch of random files in the games directory and then having steam re install 70GBs worth of files fixed it. This is very odd.
