Can't rebind Dead Eye key?

I rebound Dead Eye to the # key so I could assign it to a profile on my Logitech G502 Hero mouse's crosshair thumb button, but in the game I still have to press Middle Mouse button, but I've bound that to something else. How do I fix this?

Not sure what to do but if you want to waste some time you could set everything back to default ... via the game options area I assume there is a restore defaults for the keys then delete the profile for the Logitech don't even use profiles then figure out what keys are used where ... all of them .. then erase all key references of the dead eye key and assign it to something that is not used then bind the middle mouse button to whatever you want it bound to then do the dead eye and bind it to what you want. The key may be to temporarily bind the dead eye thing to only one key that is bound to nothing that is not used then piddle with the middle mouse and once that is done then NOW bind the dead eye to what is left ... what is not used by anything.

Since I can change quite a lot using the Logitech G Hub I made middle mouse button the # key and my mouse Crosshair (DPI Shift) button to Middle Mouse. I bound # to cover/exit cover but the game has locked Q to cover/exit cover, so I had to bind Q to middle mouse instead. But when I enter Dead Eye mode Arthur tags things at the same time now.

I give up.

This is my third attempt to play RDR2. The first time 2 years ago I gave up almost immediately after starting. The second time I found a control method that sort of worked and was able to out in about 30 hours of game time, buy by April 2021 I got frustrated with the controls again. This is now the third attempt and I've finally given up. I'm never going to play this.

i have a 502 , i rebound the mouse buttons to what i like (all key strokes), and i use x as the dead eye key

How does it work for you though? Binding Dead Eye to anything other than middle mouse does nothing for me.

I rebound every single key - Except z and x. I like those where they are.
My Dead Eye Key is Right Ctl, right under my left ring finger.
Mouse #5, on my cheap-ass Logitech Wireless (and the not so cheap-ass Logitech Gaming Mouse something or other) is Run/Sprint and Pat the Doggies and Cats and Horseys and Cougars (can't get that one to work right - they refuse to calm down).

When you click to rebind and click the mouse button you want it should immediately rebind itself to the new button.

I suspect One Drive has it's fist up your ass (that's a guess) - and keeps replacing the settings file with the old one. Protect your ass. Disable One Drive.

I deleted every single key binding, I mean EVERYTHING and I can apparently still walk, mount a horse, sprint, crouch, pause, enter weapon wheel etc. So unbinding anything doesn't work so why even have the f'king option of binding keys?

Does this message mean if I bind anything but have left some controls unbound that whatever I've set will NOT work?

I have a Wooting Two keyboard and I use analogue WASD keys set to Xbox controller left thumb stick - it means I can I can walk as if using a controller thumb stick to walk slowly or walk fast. I leave the Forward, Back, Left and Right keys unbound in the game's settings since I'm not actually using the W, S, A and D keys at all.

Okay, I was just able to confirm this: if anything, I mean ANYTHING, is left unbound then any custom bindings do not work and they revert to defaults. WASD were not the only keys I left unbound.

Now that I've bound everything to a key my new bindings for Dead Eye and Cover are working.

Still got a problem. When I enter Dead Eye mode Arthur tags the same enemy multiple times automatically. Tagging is bound to Q but I'm not pressing Q when I enter Dead Eye mode.

To unlock manual tagging you need to progress through story.
