Can't get a Tomahawk

I'm working on my Survivalist but a can't get a tomahawk to make my homing tomahawk. I have six owl feathers and the recipe but no tomahawk. I tried buying it from a fences and trappers and I have completed the story 100%. I also repeated the stories "The first shall be the last", "Paying a Social Call" and "Americans at Rest". I have checked my bags, satchels and weapons wheel looking through all weapon categories. Can anyone please tell me what to do?

One of the glaring problems with RDR2 is in order to enjoy the game on has to get on the forums or search the internet. Searching the internet saves the most time so do a search for "Red Dead 2 Tomahawk" this link popped up this may help ...

It seems though according to this link you should be able to buy it from a fence at this point. Maybe go to 6 point cabin it may be a stupid glitch because it seems the game thinks you have tomahawks so you can't buy them from a fence. The tomahawks I think are with the lasso wheel go to items then click on lasso and cycle through it may be a glitch

You probably have 3 already. You can't buy more 'cause you're full.
They're in the Wheel next to your throwing knives.

But - if not - Verify Game Files.
You should be able to buy them at the fence if you don't have any.
If you can't - something is missing or corrupted.
(or maybe that mod you installed is belly up)

The fence does not even have them for sale and I cleared space in my weapon wheel.

You don't need to clear space in weapons wheel. It has no limits.
Scroll through the part of the weapons wheel that has your Lasso, it should be in there if you have some Tomahawks already. Most likely you already have the full limit and is why you can't craft anymore.

I had them by end of Chapter 2 or so.

Each item in the 'Throwable Weapons Slot' (or any weapon with different 'Ammo Types') has an arrow to change 'Ammo Types' (also Z will cycle through them). Change Ammo Types on a Tomahawk and you change to Improved or Homing.

Had the same thing, went bonkers for a while then saw I had 3 already - the reason I couldn't buy any. I had to use the standards to create the super dupers. When I had a space in the Standard Slot I could buy more.

When the time comes to create a Super Duper T-Hawk you have to throw one away usually, so you can make one. Same with Poison knives, Improved Arrows and such.

To get an 'Early' T-Hawk:
BEFORE you go to 6 Point on that Kieran Mission - go to 6 Point. There's a T-Hawk sticking in a tree. Get it (there is nobody there), then you can buy some from the fence. If you don't get that one - you have to wait. There is not a T-Hawk there after the mission.

Yea if you are out of Homing ones then you need regular ones in order to be able to craft the homing ones.

Yes hover over any weapon and if it has multiple types; use Z and X to switch Left / Right on the types. Such as Regular vs Homing Tomahawk; or Ammo Types for any Guns. It's also how you switch between the various Knives and Hachets.

Alot quicker, especially once you learn muscle memory with it; compared to moving your mouse and clicking the tiny little arrow. Very helpful when running full speed on horse-back and need to make a quick change to something.

Yep - when 'holding the bow', z cycles through arrow types.
After you shoot Cougar #14 with a Small Game Arrow it starts to sink in. At least that's what happened at my house.

Note: The Cougar will NOT be amused...lol

i kept all owl , hawk and eagle feathers for that reason (knives and tomahawks,etc ). You may need more than one feather to craft a Tom, not sure

did you read the recipe after buying ? ;)

Yes having the recipe is not enough to unlock it. You can to go to Satchel, choose the recipe view and then read it. Then back out of all of that. Then it will consider it "learned"

I did find that have three regular Tomahawks on my throwing weapon wheel under ammo types but I still couldn't create a Homing Tomahawk. I threw one of my Homing Tomahawks to create space and that allowed me to make a new homing one. Onward and forward to my Survivalist 9 challenge, thank you to everyone for your thoughtful replys.

I forget the max for each item; it might be that you can only have 1x Homing
