steam overlay???????

anyway to actually use steam overlay with this game without it being stuck with no way to turn it off without exiting the game?????

Try changing api to dx12.

Go to Taskmanger somehow and kill steam overlay so u can play again. its so annoying idk if changing api to dx12 fixes this

Yup, shift-tab works fine on Vulkan for me as well (fullscreen mode).

When does it NOT work? It works perfectly fine.
Steam has an odd bug I run into from time to time that Steam Overlay locks up sometimes it I do not already have Friends open prior to launching game, or prior to bringing up Steam Overlay In-Game. For a game like GTAV/RDR2 I just go off-line for Steam Friends; that was it never gives me any issues.

Change the Steam Overlay shortcut; Shift+Tab is a very bad one to use.
I use Right Shift + End

This stupid ass bug is still affecting me, and I don't know how to solve it.

I only have a workaround for restarting the Steam overlay so my game isn't frozen, but I can't use the Steam overlay at all in the damn game or else it locks up every time until I close the gameoverlay task on task manager. It'd be nice to have a solution so I can use the damn Steam overlay to talk to friends, since it wasn't always like this.

I had this bug before. Config Steam Client to have Friends set to Offline when you launch Steam. This way doing that is a choice. And this way if you are just testing stuff, you don't have people seeing you are online. Then launch game, once fully in-game load up Steam Overlay and click Friends and turn that on if you want.

The issues with game lockups sometimes occur for me on pretty much any PC if have Steam Friends opened up before I launch a game. Because then the Steam.Overlay has its own friend window within it, when both the one from OS Desktop and Steam Overlay are open at the same time it seems to lock up the entire Stwam Overlay and it can't recover. Often times crashing the game even.

DirectX 12 API does not seem to load Steam overlay at all here. Vulkan have no issues with it.

I've always had Steam Overlay working fine on RDR2 with DX12

However if you enable HDR then it no longer works.

Ensure you've opted into Steam Beta

And set RDR2 to Borderless not Full Screen

I've always had the game get an out of memory error on startup if I have steam overlay enabled with DX12, gave up trying and just play on vulkan so I can still get my overlay.
