Take a look around - It's big 'cause it's EPIC.
EPICness comes at a cost.
I have plenty of space left on my WD 6TB HDD.
Game runs fine on it.
No you won't free up space by deleting files. Most of the game files are within other larger asset files. Plus if you were able to do it, they would have to all be redownloadrd again should you need to verify the game at some point.
Just be glad you don't have the game on console, as it's roughly the same size and consoles don't have as much options for storage.
Maybe get yourself a 2TB SSD. If you need a large drive for older games that don't need benefit from being on an SSD, maybe get a 4TB or larger, 7200rpm SATA HDD.
GTAV is around 100GB now after the last major update.
RDR2 is only 119GB
Seriously, get a 2TB SSD to run games off of.
I can see why you got that jester award too. You really think subtitles account for a significant portion of the size? Surely you're not being serious...
What really takes up the bulk of the size is the cinematic cutscenes, and that's just what you're getting from Rockstar. Their goal has always been to bring the big screen experience to gaming.
I'm assuming since you're stressing over size you must have a gaming laptop or something where they price a laptop cheaply by only providing a 500GB SSD, and the unspoken understanding is that you'll upgrade the SSD on your own dime. I don't think you need to go overboard with storage space personally, but I do think it's worth it having 2TB.
If you're PC gaming, it's an investment because games are only getting larger, and if this is your first introduction to an open world game made in the past five years, you're in for a rude awakening when it comes to other games.
