GPU VRAM Usage Problem
So last night I got a strange error that said I was out of memory and I had to reboot the game.

Just now when playing I decided to track my performance metrics.

In 20 minutes my VRAM usage went from 4.2 GB to 8GB...which is all my GPU has.

Well the game started to stutter like last night and freeze up... so I shut down the game

Here is a screenshot of the error from last night. I'm guessing this was why my game crashed.

Never seen this error before and I've experienced every one of them for this crappy PC port.

I'm using an AMD Vega 64 Card with an i7-4790K...

I've put in at least 80 hours into Red Dead Online and I've never seen this error or issue before

This happened while playing the story. I also play on the launcher, not the steam version.

Any suggestions? Has this happened to anyone else? Should I contact Rockstar Support?

Thanks

ok, but how many work memory (RAM do you have in your rig?
Because you talk about the memory of your GPU now (which should be good enough).

But if you have less than 12 (or even16GB) of RAM that might be it....

give some specs and ther a loads of people that can solve this in a heartbeat for you partner ;)

CPU:
GPU:
RAM:

hope you will be able to get back on your horse soon bud

yes ive heard if you want to run it on ultra / high settings you should really have 16 gigs
you could try lowering a few settings around shadows and effects , see if that helps

I have 80+ hours into this game without ever seeing this memory error pop up.

I have 16GB of ram in my PC and it's never had an error pop up about memory before.

At full load this is what I see

CPU: i7 4790K usage is between 60% and 85% depending on what is on screen.
GPU: Vega 64 usage is generally always 99%
RAM: I have 16GB of ram DDR3... usually the RAM usage sits at 10GB to 11GB

My settings are custom based off a youtube video for optimization.

I never drop below 75FPS and I play at 1080p Resolution

I have a 2060 Super with 8GB and afterburner msi usually says there is 7.2GB VRAM in use with everything ultra except for no texture scaling/water physics (75%) at 1080p. Once and a while my i5-4670k will hit 100% usage which produces some stuttering for a few seconds but usually isn't an issue most of the time if I keep background tasks from getting out of control.
Make sure you have a page file.

Just played a mission and the VRAM just keeps going up and up... before too long it gets into the 7.9 GB range

The only thing that brings it back down is going into the settings and changing something like VSYNC or FPS limit and hitting apply which then brings it back down to 4.2GB although it just keeps going back up from there again

I submitted a ticket to Rockstar about it.

Definitely strange though almost as if its got a VRAM leak or something...which i've never seen anywhere in any game.

Stupid message and bad coding. Got 16gig ram and 8gig GPU RAM and when I look at my resources, I'm using only 60% of it. Why is this like that even today 2022-11-22 ???

By the way I turn off all unnecessary services before playing so when I start playing my CPU is at 18%, MEMORY at 36% and GPU at 29%.

Seems that using HIGH profile rather than ULTRA seems to work. Go figure !!!
