If there is no controller, then press Home and the game will start.

before starting the game, make sure that the RG launcher is not running!!!

1) Run RG launcher (run the game only from the RG launcher)
2) press the Play on steam button
3) when the Social club icon appears, press the "Home" key, and the game will start.
I see, im goin to try this, thxx

I found a way that works for me, but it's not great.

You need to delete the ACCOUNT INFO in the Rockstar Games launcher and then restart your computer.

I don't think it makes a difference, but I feel that launching the game directly from the Rockstar Games launcher is better than the Steam launcher.

Doesn't always work.

If it doesn't, you just delete the account info on your Rockstar Games launcher, restart your computer, and try again.

I should add that you can delete your account info from the Rockstar Games launcher by going into SETTINGS and then ACCOUNT INFORMATION.

So does it start 100% of the time now?

Which method works?

I get a little tired of doing my method and rebooting multiple times. It'd be nice just to be able to start it whenever I want without any problems.

Dont open the game via the exe. what you oddly got to do is right click the steam icon and launch it through that. This is a well known issue with the game.

If you turn off controlled folder access in Windows Defender that seems to resolve the issue.

Oddly, the Social Club "Home" menu at the start when I get the activation error does not show RD2, just my old GTA5 information and players I used to hang out with. My RSC account website information shows RDR2 fine. Either way, like others, I just installed it today (after a long wait) and can't get past the idiotic activation bug. Yes, my internet is fine and I do not use Windows Defender (have MalwareBytes and Webroot for that business). I'm also using Win 10. At this point, the game is just dead space on HDD.

Actually I had this problem too after I bought i7 12700k, so its something with cores scheduling on win10 (on 12th gen intel and above). On windows 11 it works perfectly fine. I found stupid solution on reddit for win10 when you start some cpu stress and then launch the game and then when you see main menu, you can disable stress test.
