Game starts, then immediately quits.

I know this is yet another post on the game not starting/exiting immediately, but I want to add to the visible posts about this problem. Tried everything suggested on every thread about this.

Rockstar you have to address this issue. It has been days for many of us.

I found that having the game ready driver (which you can find in Nvidia geforce experience) installed fixed the problem for me. I did re install the game after installing the driver coincidentally, not sure if that contributed to the fix.

This is more true for NVIDIA RTX GPUs as well as AMD Vega series and Radeon 5xxx/6xxx series of GPUs due to Rockstar updating the DLSS and FSR for the game. NVIDIA GTX 10/16 series are still ok to use drivers as old as 472.12

> Manually reinstall the Rockstar Social Club runtime and Launcher. They are in the game folder. If it refuses to reinstall because it says your installed one is already up to date, then go to Control Panel > Programs and Features and uninstall them first.

and delete all files within. SYSTEM.XML holds the Graphics Settings. The other files are GPU cache related files.

Did all of these except the last one, as there is no "settings' folder in the RDR2 folder. It only contains "profiles" which has some different files and no XML. i wiped it anyways and still the same issue persists.

has anyone tried reinstalling the game from scratch? asking so i can maybe save myself the effort of waiting 8 hours for it to download again.

try this, uninstall Rockstar launcher then click play on Steam to reinstall that crap.

What solved my problem with Crashes was delete System.xml file and start the game once again for the game to create a new xml file. " You will get a error but start it again right after"
My Documents>Rockstar Games>RDR2>Settings>System.xml

This is a ridiculous situation, close to a fiasco. No one is abble to play. Support asks me to send them system32 files as if they don't understand that this issue doesn't comes from our comp but THEIR SERVERS SETTINGS since the last 24 hours!!
I fell that this update have been coded by a summer trainee with his feet :/
The game was running nice before this update and now it is broken, this is so shamy...

I think the last weekly benefits update went wonky. I read the new weekly Nazar collection yesterday, crashed soon after. After that I couldn't log into the game anymore, game on steam says it's started but it only starts r* launcher and hangs there.

The settings are created when you first start the game so if you can't boot it then that's why you don't have a system xml. It wouldn't have helped you anyway. A Vulcan/DX12 issue wouldn't show up until you actually tried to load into the game.

The last patch is pretty buggy but there isn't an exit on boot problem I've seen. I think exit on boot is a permissions problem between steam and rockstar and the fix may be to update/reinstall the Rockstar launcher. But I've never had to fix this myself.

Hey, I think I have a solution:

quit steam via taskbar icon.

Load R* Launcher.

Start game from launcher (play on steam)


After that game did startup for me and I was able to play online 5 mins. Haven't tested any longer, but at least I'm not stuck on the launcher anymore!
