Is Everyone Still Having a Random Crashes With No Error? (Solved)
I have a pretty good PC for playing games

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X32 GB RAMNVIDIA RTX 3070

Overall my PC can play almost any games that I have with high-ultra settings. Forza Horizon 5, Battlefield 5, etc.

There's no problem for other games. ONLY RDR 2 that are having so much issues with my PC for some reason.

RDR will crash randomly between 30 minutes, 1 Hour, 2 Hours, even at 3 Hours. And the crash can occurs at any time, riding horse, playing poker, even just walking or taking a bath.

I've been crashing so much I think more than 50 times already since I got the game.

I bought the game from Steam 2 weeks ago

Things that I've tried:

Reinstalling GPU driver using DDU

Downgrading GPU driver

Upgrading GPU driver

Underclocking my GPU

Resetting GPU clock to default

RAM XMP on and off

Vulkan and DX12 both still crashes

Added the game to exclusions in Windows Defender

Restarted new game and new save file

No mods and Mods is still crashing

Updated my BIOS to the latest

I've done everything as well from this post https://www.reddit.com/r/PCRedDead/comments/vmdg7r/rdr2_is_unplayable_on_pc_the_game_just_randomly/

Basically I almost done everything and the game still crashes for me. The one that makes me having a headache is that it is completely random. Either 1 hour, or 30 minutes. I can sometimes even play for 3 hours and then it crashes.

I'm honestly out of solution that I even need to make this post T_T

If anyone have other suggestions I'll gladly receive it for now.

I really love this game but I've been spending almost 90% of my time troubleshooting the game at this point..

Solution: What I did is to move my installation folder into another drive. At first RDR2 was installed at "D Drive" and after uninstalling it and installing it back to my "E Drive" (both are HDD).

Thanks to @firestorm !

at the prompt type sfc /scannow
Let it do it's thing (shouldn't take long)

if System File Checker finds corrupted files and replaces them, reboot the system.
Just to be on the safe side, verify the game files with STEAM after it's rebooted.
Then check to see if it corrected the issue you are having..

Both codes you are getting 0xc0000005 and STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION
Are actually Windows codes
but yes, corrupted game/application/data files can trigger those errors.

If you still get the same error and have another drive with enough space available,
Move the game to that drive..
Both those codes can be triggered by a failing drive also.

When was the last time you de-haired your cooling apparatus?

RDR2 will test your maintenance schedule - right after about half of that slide show is done all my fans are wide open and my rig is NOT in a NASA clean room:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2315491237

That's not mine, but I have fried components in the past (more than I care to mention) due to something that looks like Harriet's Ring Dang Doo.

I had random crashes last month when everyone else was, but nothing recently:

AMD FX-8350
AMD RX-570
(my gear enjoys maintenance every 30 days - at least<---that releases CLOUDS of dust and bunnies)

Unfortunately I've already ruled this one out as well ><. Since I have a case that are transparent, my fan is all in good condition. Temperature is also nice, I'm also using liquid cooling and both GPU and CPU temp are never above 70 Celcius when I'm playing RDR2. So I'm pretty sure it's not the heating problem. I have air conditioner that's always on whenever I play or turn on my computer.

Although that's the sad thing. The no error crashes can just be anything :'D

Thank you though for this suggestion Juice

How 'bout Windows Updates?
A recent Win10 supplemental dealt with something about graphics and gaming. I do keep Winders on a vigorous update regimen.

My Windows 10 is also up to date! It says I've on the latest version. The more latest one is to upgrade to Win 11 which I don't do at all. ><

I've done almost every solution possible in the internet I think. Disabling Shader Cache, Disabling cloud save, deleting everything in settings folder doesn't fix it too.

And it's that random moment. Sometimes it is 1-2 hours I'm able to play. Sometimes it's 30 minutes then I'll crash

It tells me my junk is Win11 incompatible... fine with me...lol

I got one more - did you set the RDR2.exe process to High Performance/Priority?
I did that a while back - not sure why - probably when Crashfest 2022 was going on... didn't seem to help, but using a Solo Lobby did (for Online).

Yes I have done this too! I remember doing it and after that my PC is kind of laggy because of that :'D

And it still crash at some point.

One thing that I haven't tried is to set the virtual memory limit. But then after some research on google. Lots of people are against that and since I have 32GB of RAM. There's no reason to do that they said. (I'm just afraid doing this will ruin my PC somehow)

I've always suspecting it might be some memory issues.

The error in the launcher.log found in my documents is saying it is "Exit code 0xc0000005 indicates a fatal game exit (reason: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION)"

But I've run MemTest before and found no fault at my RAM. My other games are running so much fine as well. Except RDR2

hmmmm... you may have seen this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/reddeadredemption2/comments/g3kcjx/pc_crash_0xc0000005/
It's a long-shot.

Have you rebooted your router/modem (both)?

Probably been here too:

https://www.reddit.com/r/PCRedDead/comments/m21ymj/a_possible_solution_for_red_dead_not_launching/

https://pastebin.com/qFrWrRCh <---R* 'Suggestions' - you probably have those, but look anyway.

I hope you get to play this game for 2000hrs, but that will be difficult if it won't run for more than 10 minutes...

Good Luck, Man.

Yes I've seen that one as well! Perhaps I will redo it again and see. Resetting the Graphic settings.

I'm not sure about rebooting my modem though but I'll try that as well.

Thank you so much for the suggestions! It is hard to even pin point the problem and giving solutions too so thank you so much for the suggestions Juice.

I do wish I can enjoy this game and able to stream it peacefully :'D

If You have never touched the setting You probably have Windows managing the virtual RAM which i would recommend, too. If You don´t need the pagefile it´s no loss - but if You need it, it wouldn´t crash. What´s the downside of windows having managing it? I´m not aware of any - and it wouldn´t ruin Your PC - how could it? It´s just a temporary space to put something into. The CPU always works with the RAM, because anything else is too slow, but that needs to be fed and sometimes there´s to much in the RAM or something which is needed later and it has to be transferred somewhere, which is the pagefile. Before Win10 Microsoft recommended at least 1.5 times the RAM as a size, but no more than 3 times the size, but nowadays You have SSDs and no hardrives, so You don´t need to allocate some manual file at some point of the drive which is faster - because any part of the SSD has the same speed and the SSD chooses automatically where to save something depending on how many overwrites those parts have to ensure a longer lifetime. Even if that still works with a fixed pagefile size i don´t see the point in doing so on some SSD. You´d need some spare space on the drive anyway for the reason mentioned above. Perhaps also check the SSD. I mean You tried almost everything - also verifying the game files? I guess yes - but it isn´t listed, so i just add it.

Ah I'm sorry.. do you mean that I should try setting up the virtual memory myself? Or just let windows automatically handle it? (which is the default one and yes I never touched those so its always automatically managed by windows)

Yes I've recently verifying the game files just today. Sadly it still crash with the same no error. This one is just 40 minutes in and crashing. T_T

Windows automatically if You have an SSD, fixed amount for Yourself if You have a HDD.

No pagefile is perhaps bad, as the RAM doesn´t really save anything. It gets written anew every CPU cycle even if it´s the same data. It just provides it to the CPU so it can process it. That´s the only real purpose of it. And with no pagefile it would perhaps crash even if it only wants to transfer one bit to it, because it´s not possible. I thought You meant You had disabled it, because someone in the web said it´s not necessary with 32 GB RAM - which is perhaps a wrong information, even if it may work for what they usually do.

Edit:
You can also set some fixed amount - but there´s not really a point in doing so on a SSD, as said on a HDD it uses some space which is faster to access, which is more to the center of the disk. But an SSD is no disk, and it´s recommended to leave not less than 10% as free space anyway, which is more than the pagefile would ever need.

It could also be a modder, as they have the capability over crashing your game without message or error.
in Aug 18, 2022 @ 2:26am
Since you've mention "mods no mods" then maybe you just didn't fully clean them. Go to installation folder. Delete all folders except "12on7", "Redistributables" and "x64". Delete ALL files in main directory that do not end with .rpf. Then verify integrity via steam library. Now uninstall OneDrive if you have it. Go to documents. Delete R* games folder (back up if you want for some savegames if you care)). After all these are done, run the game. When you get prompted about cloud saves, DO NOT enable them.

Ahha got it! So I think I'll just leave it to windows to manage it. Thank you for the detailed explanation Triple G!
