But there's much better horses. The tall ones with the more rounded head shape for exemple ( don't know the english name ), I personnally prefer those because they never throw you on the ground, even after taking many bullets. Since I usually have a bounty high enough that the bounty hunters even send their dogs and it's like a small army, it make the fights really cool staying on horse-back the whole time. Wouldn't be possible with some other horses that throw you off after a single bullet taken.
Missouri Fox Trotter? excellent all around horse
Only a few with english names
(American english that is, we dont do english well here in the states either. Ask the brits. lol)
Yeah, without a doubt, there's much better horses available for bullet sponges
Temperament isn't coded into the game, but handling, different animations for different sizes or horses, and different sound effects can make it seem that way. It depends on cores, proximity to enemies, and bonding. Horses take longer to spook if their cores are full.
I noticed Milton rides the dark bay Andalusian, which made me want it a little less.
Some types of horses spook less than others, what I mean when I say temperament.
Take two different type's of horses and place them facing the same direction (with full cores)
Walk behind them and fire the loudest cannon you have, some will get spooked more than others and take longer to chill back out after being spooked..
It's a entire breed or class of horse type thing.
Be cool to see some animal AI in games though, each animal develops it own personality over time..
Ever accidentally punch your own horse fat fingering the kbd? Horse AI would remember and learn from those player slip ups...
It would have some interesting outcomes to say the least.. lol
I don't worship at that church and have very different experiences than those that do.
Regarding the Turkoman - I can take no other horse into a 6 pack of wolves and get surrounded - then ride out with all or most of them dead. Most other horses leave me on the ground right in the middle of them. The Turk is the ONLY horse I've found that will rear up on it's hind legs surrounded by 6 Wolves (that really freaks out a pack of wolves - well boys, we have it - now what?) and give me time to either kill them all, or open a hole for our escape.
Don't know and don't care what 'proof' others have that just can't happen. It happens at my house all day long. Those that ride Arabians better have good boots - 'cause they're gonna spend most of the time walking in them - or dying in them when dumped into the fray.
2000hrs+ on a Turk. I've been tossed to the ground ONCE - when I let the Roanoke Ridge Cougar get close enough to take a swipe at him. ONCE. I'd bet no one can make that claim with an Arabian - and according to 'the church of Vlaad' - they're the
same horse. <---bullhocky.
Not going to start an argument - or end the one that's been in progress for years. They believe what they want and I believe what I see day in and day out. That's the end of it.
Try the gun trick I mentioned, you may be surprised at the results.
All this to say, the best horse is the horse you like the best.
Maybe that's the difference, but me and my Turk are...:
lol
(now that I think about it, an Arabian and a Timber Wolf are about the same size - no wonder it craps it's pants - and mine - woof)
Objectively, I know the mustang I ride has relatively poor stats, too. I just think it looks good, and having Arthur on a symbol of the old wild west appeals to me, given his constant grousing about how the era of the outlaw is coming to an end.
Have that horse walk through cougar/panther areas, especially at night and the foggier the better..
Also keep in mind, breeds of horses have higher base health stats than others in this game.
So that can also have effect on the horses "behavior" i.e. temperament
Someone else said the name Andalusian, that's the ones I was talking about, with their rounded head/nose. The Missouri trotter are great too, maybe even better but I never got to play with one that much since they're only available in the epilogue ( I think ) and I'd rather complete most things with Arthur. Andalusians definitly are great horses for Arthur, the one I've had for a while now never throw me off in fights with dogs and their owners shooting rains of bullets. What I do with bounty hunters bringing their dogs is I shoot them while stomping their dogs with the horse ( sounds horrible but those dogs never leave you alone if you don't kill them ). I definitly couldn't do the same with a max bonded arabian. There is a huge difference of behavior depending on the horse, anyone who hasn't notice are people who don't have high bounties, that's the only explanation I can find. I still remember my time riding the red arabian, he was almost always throwing me on the ground during fights. It made for messy fights alright, it had that appeal.
EDIT: just realized while checking that the missouri foxtrotter also have this round nose shape, lol. I definitly need to change horse more often.
ALL my horses are packed full of Horse Meal and I keep 'em in Gold Cores - Yea, I spend a lot of time at the crafting fire.<---you can craft those right on the horse - at the stable to buy more supplies (let no Current Patch go unpicked...lol).
That might be why my Turk never throws me, but those Gold Cores look hilarious on an Arabian as it's running away while I'm being eaten...
Why would i use a muscle car if i can drive a Ferrari...
