I played RDR2 years ago at launch on Xbox - is PC worth it?
Is there anything new or reason enough to purchase on PC playthrough as opposed to xbox? Mind you I played back at the xbox launch.

***Update****
I did some investigating and ended up purchasing while on sale. I decided to give it a run. I'm running several mods, DX12 + Reshade - and playing exclusively in first person.

It's a completely different game.

Never played the xbox but pc is very satisfying to be enrolled into such a living dynamic period styled map, to be able to see so many creatures and to watch the behavior can be quite a kick. It demonstrates how much more an open world can be when given the right kind of attention. As an open world title for pc it really does raise the standard and for anyone to support this will be sending the right kind of message to the developers.
They say that the devil is in the detail. RDR II has plenty of that.

I'm on my first play through.

After 800 odd hours of play I just this afternoon started chapter four.

With a time mod you can play this (I don't want to call it a game) 19th century cowboy simulation in real time.

It's like the film Westworld in many ways.

If retired with nothing better to do you can almost plan your day around it.

For example, I can go to St Denis and play poker for three real life hours. I can then spend a few real life hours looking into a treasure map I've found, and I have many treasure maps.

Then I might spend a few real life hours hunting a particular animal like a moose. Even now after 800 odd hours with intensive hunting I've still never seen a three star moose yet alone killed one.

I wouldn't have it any other way

And then of course there's the story.

What a game!

I'm yet to try online.

Get it, try it, you'll enjoy it very mightily.

All of those things are present in the Xbox/PlayStation version. The only differences are improved visuals and higher frame rate but it's still very playable on last gen consoles.

Nope, as someone who bought the PS4 version about a week after it launched and completed it in about 2 weeks I'd say there's nothing "new" about the PC version. It just looks better (but not miles better) on a beefy PC and has a higher frame rate.

Depends on your definition of worth it cowboy.

Worth it like I want to play this, Yes.

Worth it to play with the dirty, double crossing, no good for nothing, bushwhacking sidewinders, cheatin varmints? No.

Really?

"Console Version"... has none of this:

3 new Bounty Hunter Missions
Herman Zizendorf has been stealing tools from tradesmen – track him down in Blackwater.
Ex-Confederate Cavalry Officer Camille de Millemont is wanted dead or alive out by Catfish Jacksons, but his loyal men are never far behind.
Bart Cavanaugh and his gang are camping out in Big Valley. Take Bart dead or alive without alerting his gang if you want to avoid a whole mess of trouble.

2 new Gang Hideouts
Take on the deadly Del Lobos gang in new hideouts at Gaptooth Breach and Solomon’s Folly.

2 new Treasure Maps
Search for treasures across the new Landmarks of Riches and The Elemental Trail maps for gold bars and other rewards.

4 new weapons:
M1899 Pistol - Semi-automatic handgun with clip loaded ammunition
Evans Repeater - high capacity repeater (previously available in Red Dead Online only)
High Roller Revolver - ornate double-action revolver (previously available in Red Dead Online only)
Le Mat Revolver - powerful revolver with the ability to shoot shotgun shells (previously available in Red Dead Online only)

7 new horses:
White Brindle Arabian - Search by the ancient grounds to the north to find this one
Few Spot Appaloosa - beautiful and hardy, ideal for cross-country journeys
Perlino Andalusian - healthy, sturdy breed found in the far northeast (previously available in Red Dead Online only)
Red Chestnut Arabian - head West of Strawberry for chance to catch this fleet-footed beast (previously available in Red Dead Online only)
New wild horse breeds: Buttermilk Buckskin Kentucky Saddler, Liver Chestnut Morgan, and Gold Palomino Tennessee Walker

A new mission called, “To The Ends of the Earth.”

Herbalist Camp Missions – visit the Herbalist camp in the wilderness and collect requested herbs for new recipes

5 New PC Exclusive Trinkets to collect with new abilities:
Hawk Talon – permanently decreases Stamina bar drain speed by 30% when drawing a bow
Cat Eye – permanently increases the length of Fortifying tonic effects by 20
Shark Tooth – permanently increases horse bonding experience bonus by 10%
Turtle Shell – permanently increases health bar refill speed by 10%
Crow Beak – permanently increases looted ammo by 10%

There you go.
I enlightened someone else earlier, so... I didn't have to re-type all that (but I did include the link above - that apparently no one bothered to visit).

wow 800 hrs for 3 chapters, great going. I too use a time mod and several other "survival mods" to match and love to just wonder around the land - I'm too on chapter 4 with about 250 hrs.

If the launcher works for you, sure. If not - tough break kid. No games, no refunds.

So I guess we know how to play these games properly.

you need a pretty good pc to handle it, but if thats the case, then its even more impressive looking than the xbox version. When i first got the PC version it wouldnt even run, i had to upgrade my graphics card, CPU and RAM lol. but it runs great now.

it's a gamble for some, my game ran totally fine on my system for about 200hrs of play and then suddenly started dropping to such a low framerate at random times that it became unplayable. multiple other users have reported this and there's no fix aside from getting a new PC
