Sell meat or turn it in?

Hi everyone. So I've only been playing for a couple of days. I'm trying to keep the camp supplied with food. I've brought in a few dear and whatnot but the icon in the top right was still red. Then I bought an upgrade to the chuck wagon for $30 and it turned yellow. So is that how you do that? Have I just been turning meat in for nothing?

I tried selling some meat but I only got a few cents for it.

Keep the Chuck Wagon resupplied with the extra goodies you upgraded to and the icon will be 'Gold'. You also need to keep the meat coming. 3 Whole Animals - any condition - will ring a big honor bell and also provide meat for the stew for several days, but you simply can't bring too much meat/whole animals to the camp.

Selling meat is no way to make extra money.
Crafting and Selling Tonics is a great way.
Upgrade your satchel so you can carry more stuff.
Doctors/General Stores/Fences will buy your Crafted Tonics, but they'll only buy 'Potent'. Keep the 'Special' for yourself.

Upgrade to The Chicken Coop and Camp Stew takes on bonus properties - like gives you Gold Cores - the same way cooking and eating Seasoned Big Game does. Gators are a never ending supply of Big Game Meat. They just lay there waiting to be harvested. Improved Arrow or Rifle to the head. Harvest the poor ones and dump the pelts - they're basically worthless.

Cook your food.
Don't buy it.

Upgrade all the bits of the camp - eventually so all the camp icons are in the Gold.

When you get a fishing rod (Chapter 3) - one Sockeye or Steelhead is worth $5.35 in St. Denis. When you can carry 99 of Each - that trip to St. Denis with a load of fish and tonics is going to make you wealthy - very quickly.

Note:
Do NOT push the story past Chapter 2 - for a long time. Chapter 2 is laid back and you'll have plenty of time to learn how this game works. There's much to do that's NOT in the Story - and that's where the game is.

There's also a guy close by, Maximillian, who will open Treasure Hunting with a map you can purchase, or take from him forcibly. It opens THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of dollars, so it's worth the 10 bucks.
