Here's a New One - Horse Spawned Under Ground

I stopped for Camp on the road North of Carmody Dell, that runs towards Moonstone Pond.

Woke up in the morning, and while both Horses were shown to be in my camp area, they could not be seen.

I then noticed they had the "below you" arrow flashing, even though i was standing next to them on the map.

Game save > Reload and my main horse reappeared. Unfortunately, my spare horse, a fully-bonded Few Spotted Appaloosa (my favorite), was still "below me".

Since the spare horse tends to respawn at the location of a game save, i started moving away from camp (calling the horse to no avail), and made a game save. A couple tries (and a couple saves) later "Voila!", she reappeared.

Haven't seen this before in my 1500+ hours of gameplay. Anyone else ever ?

Never tried to load a save with a temporary horse in the mix.
I wouldn't be surprised to learn it was buggy if you do that.
You did discover 'the work around' - so... good job.

That is really weird, but good to know since I also take 2 horses when hunting. Another thing that annoys me is that the saddle counts as a horse in the stable, which really confused me when I sold the horse it was on, then was told my stable was still full. Some of the horse mechanics don't totally make sense imo

Sometimes I fast travel and my horse is about to die, also have fast travel to Annesburg and loaded in under water before, all on last couple playthroughs, didn't happen when I first got the game.
