Oklahoma!
Yeah, just an out there thing but the film/musical Oklahoma has just started on British TV and I've never seen it before, heard some of the songs yes, the film no.

Anyway, the sets are right out of RDR2 or RDR2 sets are right out of Oklahoma it's great.

RDR2 makes me want to watch westerns.

Silverado is always in my Saddlebag - for rainy days sitting in the old tent (recovering from a gunshot wound)...

Emmet: "Hey, Paden... Where you been?"
Paden: "I was just checking the... You know, looking in."
Jake: "Jeez, Paden - her old man ain't even cold yet".

My only real western as a kid was a series called "Bonanza" that I loved but forgot. "Little Joe" being my favourite as I recall.

RDR2 has kind of rekindled something in me for all those old westerns that I missed or ignored.

Hang em high was on the other day but I got too drunk to watch it.

I'll definitely spare some time for these films now.

Son, you want a real Western? Watch ''A Fistful of Dollars'' ''For a Few Dollars More'' and then ''The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly'' - in that order, before watching ''Hang 'Em High'' '' Coogan's Bluff'' ''Paint Your Wagon'' (musical, but also a comedy) ''Two Mules for Sister Sara'' '' High Plains Drifter'' (one of my all-time favorites) ''The Outlaw Josey Wales'' and ''Unforgiven'' Heck, that there is some of the best period drama going. And if I might add, ''True Grit'' and if you're looking for one heck of a mess, try ''The Hateful eight'' ''Tombstone'' which is an academy award movie about the gunfight at the OK Corral.

Can you believe there's a whole slew of westerns on today.

Shalako has just started followed by Guns of the magnificent seven.

Another channel must be having a western day with They Rode West, The Stranger Wore a Gun, Last of the Comanches, Gunmen from Laredo, The Bravados and Five Card Stud.

A third channel has The Oregon Trail followed by The Outcasts of Poker Flat.

Westerns on British TV are like London buses, you don't see one for ages then they all turn up at once.

Shalako - James Bond goes west. Love me some Bond. Wasn't impressed with the movie.
Guns of the Magnificent Seven - George Kennedy, James Whitmore - 2 class acts - 3 if you count the movie.
Five Card Stud - Robert Mitchum, Dean Martin and Roddy McDowell - Goodun.

One to NOT Miss: The Magnificent Seven - Yule Brenner, Steve McQueen, James Coburn, Charles Bronson, Eli Wallach, Robert Vaughn <---the dream team. There's a reason they used that music for Marlboro Cigarette Advertising - EVERY KID KNOWS WHAT IT IS - and wanted to be just like 'em! Worked on me (cough).

Don't sleep on "The Great Silence" either.

The Rifleman is such a good show; this game makes me think of it like all the time. XD

If you've got a chance to catch it on TV somehow or something.

Ballad of Buster Scruggs, The Revenant, are a couple I recommend. Angry 8 extended is on Netflix now in 4 episodes if you haven't seen it. I always watched westerns but more fun with RDR for sure. AntiqueGamer's list is on the money.

When I was a kid (a little one) Dad brought home the official Chuck Conner's Autographed Rifleman Rifle Toy (I didn't know it was a repeater - not a rifle - nor did I care). It was soooo cool. I was on Cloud 9.

A Kid down the street stole it and broke it half, because earlier that day he was Bullying me - and I broke his nose for him. Later, his Mother dragged him back to our house with blood still on his shirt holding MY Broken Rifleman Rifle (Repeater) and made him apologize to me. I knew what I had to do - but I wanted to beat him to death with the pieces of that Rifle (Repeater). I shook his hand instead.

Dad was a School Teacher - I never got a replacement - everyone was poor - well, poor enough anyway.

It was a traumatic experience. Not the last nose I ever broke, but I sure did miss that Rifle (Repeater). I never got Bullied again - by anyone. It was difficult to watch The Rifleman (The Repeaterman), but I never missed an episode.

Thanks Dad.
You were the best.
Billy? You're still on my S*&T List.

Man o' War,

One interesting (and fun) cultural fact that you might be unaware of.

In the US State of Oklahoma, folks sing the title song from that musical.

A lot.

As a group.

At public functions and sporting events.

With tremendous gusto and vigor.

It can be quite startling for an outsider who happens to be visiting. Very cool, but startling.

Be Thankful it's not John Denver's:
Take Me Home - West Virginia...
(facepalm)...

:)

Great stuff, I love things like that.

Be thankful you're not a tourist in a Scottish hotel room with a hangover when the bagpipes kick off at six o'clock in the morning. :-)
