How Often and How Much To Eat
For both the Player and the horse. Is 3 squares a day (breakfast, lunch and supper) enough
to maintain Average and Fit, respectively? One provision for each, each time? Wondering what others have figured out. I try to immerse, and give not only food, but treats now and then, too.

Oh, and also, by the way, I find it pretty rare to find Moose; still trying to get the last of the perfect Moose pelts for the trapper.

I haven't figured out the eating mechanic, either. But I found this:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/200179-red-dead-redemption-2/77260280

And I have two quotes that I found for moose hunting:

from Brandywine Drop, follow the road Left towards Ambarino,
there can be a moose above the road there (above the O of Ambarino).

other option is Owanjila left of Strawberry, moose can spawn at the water when riding towards the dam.
and follow the road up to Little Creek River, moose can spawn in the field under the homestead with barn.

if you keep riding between these locations you can probably get a few moose to spawn.
and i noticed the moose seem to spawn more in the early evening.

good luck.

And there was also this:

It is Random Chance that a Moose will spawn, and also Random Chance that it will be a Male.

Revisiting a spawn location several times during the game, and capitalizing on it when it happens, will often ensure success.

When i get frustrated, i do a bit of save scumming - making a manual save about a 10 second horse ride away from spawn location, then reloading, searching, then reloading again until a Male spawns.

This guide shows the most reliable "Moose Spawn Locations" - good luck.

i can maintain "Average" weight with about 2.5-3 pieces of meat per day. (a half piece is something small like game bird or such) - and just eating meat.

it seems to be best to spread it out during the day, and to have the camp dinner every few days (testing this now with interesting results). Trying to stay "perfect"is illusive.

Keeping warm and getting enough sleep seems to matter also. I have started wearing "Average Climate" clothing around Valentine (another test that doesn't seem to do much).

In cold climate, it is very hard to gain weight no matter how much you eat.

In warm climate, 5-6 pieces of food per day will push you overweight rapidly.

Also - weight change is gradual, so watch for the up/down arrow that briefly flashes over your Health Core when you wake or leave temporary camp.

See my Moose Spawn prose quoted above,

Brandywine Drop is the most reliable moose spawn location.
(Northern Roanoke Ridge - near the train tracks - east side of water)

always underweight

I've gotten Moose to spawn in - fairly reliably:

Ride into an area - perhaps where a Moose might live.
Ride, shoot, yell - scare all the animals off.
Ride back to the middle of the clear area and drop a Herbivore Bait.
Pretty good chance a Moose will walk in.
Might have horns, might not.

Bullwinkle has a hard head:
Springfield/Rolling Block - Express Ammo
Improved Arrow = Instagib.

Tip for Bull Moose Horn Hunting for Pearson.
Blast the one you see - it don't have to be perfect.

Eating:
Eat when your cores are low.
Sleeping is the catalyst that makes eating work.
Get a hot meal at a hotel, take a bath and sleep regularly so you can see how your weight goes. Don't worry too much about it, but try to remain average, at least. If you're a pig - eat less, run a little and sleep. Do some camp chores. Work up a sweat.
Do Yogi with Micah... by feeding him to a bear.

Food:
Food you cook is better for you than canned goods.
It'll also make you heavy - especially when you start gobbling down Thyme Big Game for every firefight...lol

Camp Stew is very good for you. Eat it when you can.

Since you need to go back to camp every 3 days - or take an honor penalty - load up a nice Buck and two rabbits (or something), head back to camp, grab some stew and sleep for at least 8 hours. <---you could eat from your bag and grab the stew before you leave - it has magical properties.

Anywho - that way you'll always get some sleep every 3 days (at least) and you can see how your weight is doing.

Wow, some really good responses, thanks! I will incorporate a lot of this; the good news is I do a lot of it already, so it boils down to patience. I no longer need anything special from Bullwinkle as all I'm doing is trying to wrap up the trapper made stuff, so moose cows are ok. I am in post-epilogue so am doing a lot of hunting and such, as well as exploring. I have found some interesting Easter eggs!
It sounds like if I feed myself 3 times a day with a piece of meat I've cooked, and throw in a chocolate bar now and then, I should be good (averaging out everything everyone said).
Thanks again everyone for the tips!!

Really doesn't matter. You'll be overpowered all the time, if you choose your weaponary right.

Hey Britt, do you know what field under what homestead with barn that he was talking about in his post?

I think it's Hanging Dog Ranch. O'Driscoll Hideout.
I haven't seen a Moose there, but that's not unusual.

I will be corrected if wrong.

Here's a spot - and you can knock down a half dozen Cougars if you're in the market:

Are you looking for Moose ? Cougar ? Horses ?

I have no idea where the reference to "Homestead with Barn" is pointing, but there are a few on the map - and like Juice said - i don't look for Moose near any homestead, except for the one northwest of Brandywine Drop - above the falls, near the tracks & the entrance to the homestead called "Willard's Rest" (no barn, just a shed)

This location is manually marked on the link i provided above.

Yes, I've seen many Moose in the blue circle - when visiting Charlotte (Willard's Rest) - ease out slow on foot - there is often one standing right there:

Or there's a Cougar nearby - and it can almost be in Charlotte's Yard - I recommend Cover Scent anywhere along Roanoke Ridge.

I thought he might have been referring to Hanging Dog with the Laramie boys; have rustled several cattle there. I agree with Brandywine and Willard area, have seen them there; and yep, a cougar in that area. I've done all the cougar I need. Almost 100% done with crafted garments. Thanks for the responses, peeps.

I just eat chocolate bars and drink whiskey. Then go to the bar and get in fights. That keeps the weight in check.

100% reliable guide for Moose, worked perfectly for me at least
