Safe cracking?

I just got the random encounter of the guys who are trying to crack the safe with a sledgehammer in story mode. They're gone now, but is there any way I can crack it? I don't see a way to take it with me either.

either shoot at it with your guns(a lot), or you can try opening it with a stick of dynamite

last time they got it open with the sledge after almost shooting each other over how they could not get it open, also seen them blow themselves up outfright opening it with dynamite. another time they fd around until thjey exloded themselves i still had to blow up the safe.

that encounter got a good bit of variety in how it plays out.
