Crashing in Saint Denis
On my second play through and i've begun crashing when in Saint Denis. The game will freeze after a minute of riding around and then exit to desktop. I have a 1080 and a ryzen 1700 at 3.4 ghz. I've already tried changing the API from vulkan to dx12 and vice versa, letting geforce optimize settings, and clearing the game settings. Anyone had anything like this happen and fix it?

Its a solution of this game. Dont blame your system. Rockstar MUST release a patch to stop these random crashes. The game released 10 weeks ago and crashes like on releaseday.
Refer to the above comment.

NOT HELPFUL but just sharing what I experience. I experience random crashes every now and then... I keep saving from time to time just to finish the game... it totally sucks! I spent time reading and watching YouTube videos on how to fix random crashes but issue persist....

Turn Reflections to "Low." If it's a performance issue causing it, that is the most taxing graphic setting in Urban areas on this game. Turning Lighting to Medium might help as well being there are a but ton of light sources in the cities. Being everyone's hardware/software effect a game differently, eliminating the two most taxing elements from the graphic settings in game might help, though, I say might. If there is something more serious it's beyond my ability to help.

I saw a 10-20+ FPS performance in cities when I turned Reflections to Low. So it's worth a shot.

The event viewer shows the crash is 0xC0000005. This means you cannot fix it. This is an access violation error. This is usually caused by a null pointer. The offset for all of my crashes is 0x00000000022ac665 every single time. For the same crash to occur around the same time with the same code at the SAME offset from the base address this means it is IN THE CODE. It cannot be fixed by any magic or mojo on our end.

I've used third party APIs that crashed with this error code and every time I had to get a fix from them. No amount of code on my end would fix their issues.

R* needs to patch the game. The farther I get into the game the more frequent the crashes. It has crashed 6 times today.

If you want to see the crash log go to your Event Viewer and you will see the faulting application as RDR 2 with code 0xC0000005.

Thanks for the video, it was useful for my fps. I'm still crashing in Saint Denis though, so if anyone knows a fix I'm still looking.
If you haven't, you should really double check your sound settings. Disable any 3d/spatial effects and make sure sound is being handled via your nvidia card.

This is a known issue and reverting from realtek sound to nvidia sound stopped crashes for me.

That may be so, but I arrived here (via google) because the issues still exist over three years later.

First thing to do is use DDU to completely uninstall your GPU drivers and then reinstall them from scratch. If the problem persists, try running the Windows Memory Diagnostic to see if you get any memory errors.
