Pick up items?

Is there something i am missing? I have to carefully nudge Arthur to be able to pick up items. Why can´t i just use my mouse pointer and tell Arthur what i want to pick up? It´s super annoying nudging him back and forth just to get him in exatcly the spot where he can pick up the item i wanted.

If you see dots below pick up prompt in right corner just switch between them using Q.

This doesn't apply for multiple items in boxes, drawers and cupboards though.

The game was not designed for keyboard and mouse, so it definitely doesn't have the ability to point the mouse at stuff and have it select it. It's my understanding that it's easier to point Arthur at the item you want if you're in first person, but I have no interest in playing in first person, so I don't know. Most of the time, my solution is to just pick up everything, since at least some of the time, the game will ignore items that you can't pick up, because you already have the max of that item. It doesn't always work though, since sometimes, it insists on showing the item with the option to pick it up being greyed out. I don't know why it picks the one behavior sometimes, and the other behavior at other times.
