I think it is a herb, flower or a plant, every time you discover a new habitat or location for an animal or plant, it will be marked on your map, for future reference.
I wandered all around that spot and couldn't find anything. Normally it will indicate you can eat or pick a plant. I should have checked with eagle eye.

I found another one, again, center of the screenshot. This time I turned on eagle eye and it detected nothing.

It is an area where you can find a certain type of flower/herb/mushroom. It does not mean it is on that exact spot, it just means they can be found in that general area. Same as when you get a regular animal symbol on the map that designates a hunting area.
Whatever it is, it must have been collected. I wonder what the respawn time is.
