Steal the Dark Bay Turk from the Braithwaits and enjoy the real 'Best Horse' in the game.
I tame and ride that Cream Andalusian from Roanoke Ridge until I can steal that Dark Bay Turk then that's my horse until Buell. I ride him to get him bonded then ride him for the 'end'. Seems fitting somehow.
I sell the Andy and the Turk before the epilogue.
I tame or steal and sell the Arabians. Fine looking useless beasts they are. They're also too short to be a real horse. More like a pony.
;)
Getting that MFT was always a glitchy fiddle at best. In the end if it was successful, you ended up with a MFT. Yawn....lol
They'll also dump you off in the middle of a pack of wolves, or into the jaws of any large predator - to be killed, eaten and pooped out right there where your Arabian left you.
Turkoman - has never bucked me off. <---best horse in the game, IMO.
Andalusian - has never bucked me off. <---- a great horse a cannonball couldn't take down.
Hungarian Halfbreed - has never bucked me off. <--- a solid, brave ride.
If compliments are your thing and you don't hunt - get yourself an Arabian Pony.
If you hunt and want an all around, do it all horse - about anything else will do - the 3 above being among the best.
The Dark Bay Turk must be stolen (one opportunity in Chapter 3), or a Gold Turk can be bought in St. Denis (late in the game). Andalusian can be tamed from the wild on Roanoke Ridge - google. Hungarian Halfbreed can also be tamed from various locations.
A horrid, pinkish, mangy looking Missouri Foxtrotter can be bought from Strawberry Stables (fitting - as the thing looks Strawberry Daquiri upchuck) later in the game - Chapter 3 or 4 - google. I never had it long enough to really check it out - I simply can't ride a horse that looks like that - but it was fast. I didn't take it hunting very much - and can report it didn't buck me off, but we never mixed it up very much before I sold it.
Google the method for stealing the Dark Bay Turk - it's complicated, not a hack or glitch, but worth it! Google the locations for finding and taming the Cream Andalusian, and Hungarian Halfbreed - any point in the game - they're there in the wild for the taking.
It's probably a scripted win, but the Cream Andalusian smoked Dutch's White Arabian - beat it down hard - Dutch couldn't even see our dust. It's not a super fast horse, but it is brave and strong.
I don't think this is a spoiler, but as I tamed the White Arabian in the snow, on it... and it trying to buck me off as it was being tamed.... we got jumped by 3 Wolves. She trampled one to death and the second it was tamed, it dumped me off right in the middle of the other two and I had to deal with them with a Cattleman... it was close, but after I ruined their pelts the Arabian was standing right there waiting for me to brush and feed it... which I did, of course... lol
The Turk, just yesterday, got up on it's hind legs when 6 Wolves had us surrounded. I took out 2 in front of us, gave him a little kick, then when there was a little clearance, I took out the other 4. At that point we could have made a break for it, but I got the feeling "Bowah" wanted those wolves dead... I was happy to comply...lol
He's NEVER bucked me off. NEVER.
I don't let a big cat get close enough to take a swipe at him 'cause I don't want to test that situation, but a couple of days ago while I was filling out Horseman 10 in 'Predator Alley' (Hanging Dog Valley) a Grizzly leaped out of the woods headed right for us full on. I was kinda waiting a moment to see if it was a bluff 'cause it wasn't a 3 star bear.... a moment later I noticed it wasn't a bluff and dropped it right at "Bowah's" feet. He never budged, but did complain a bit as I was skinning it... "Take it easy, Bowah... it's gotta be done"...lol
Ya really got get off those Arabians.
Completely different game...
;)

may be becoz I am trying it early in ch 2 when this horse didn't even unlock !
-NO SPOILER-
So, in the meantime buy or tame a decent horse until Chapter 3 "Horse Flesh for Dinner" - and make sure you have plenty of hay and a dozen sugar cubes to feed the Dark Bay Turk before you trigger the cutscene with Clay... return later, get close, whistle and your new horse simply walks up to you..lol
Note:
After I bonded with that Dark Bay Turk and it was my 'Temporary', back at camp I walked too close to Dutch and triggered the next mission. I had a save point before the last one, but decided to see what happened as Charles and I saved Trelawny from Bounty Hunters. My Temp Turk stayed on the map during that mission and when it concluded I sent Charles on his way and went over to whistle up the new horse.
Then, theoretically you could have the White/Red Chestnut/Black Arabians in the stable, two of which you could then sell, keeping the black one as it's the best horse of the 3. You'll have a Dark Bay Turk, a Black Arabian and you can ride to Strawberry in Chapter 4 and buy an MFT with your discount and the money you gain from selling two Arabians - and I'd call that 'Affordable'.
You'll then have 3 of the best horses in the game stabled at the start of chapter 4.
Then you can set your sights on Buell in chapter 6 and you'll own the quadruple crown of RDR2 rides.
I got to itching for that Dappled Pinto and looked at all the goofy methods for getting it - 4 chapters ago.
I'm an Arthur Completionist Fan, so I already had the native trainer and enough Nexus mods to get most of that done (Hunting Requests - ugh...).
Anywho I looked down through the trainer commands, found horses and a Dappled Pinto landed on the ground in front of me... well... that was easy. I rode it to the stable and named him 'DanSir'. He's rockin' that Alligator Saddle.
lol
