Can my horse die by natural causes or does it have to run into something/get shot enough?

Horses can die from animals, falling, hit by a train, or tripping over a rock.
All of these, have happened to me. :(
It also depends, Story you will lose your horse forever but your saddle remains. Online your horse will respawn after 4 minutes.

Thanks a ton! Was kind of hoping they can get sick and die, im very careful with my horse so idk if ill ever lose it lose it. But we'll see! Thanks for letting me know about the story horse!

my first play thru, I jumped off my hunting horse and left it there on a railway line.... didn't end very well.
Then annoyingly my main horse was shot out from under me in a ambush by the murfree brood gang just before i got back to beaver hollow to do the final mission.

I love killing horses I do it on my spare time. Haha noo don't report me you're too hot to report me.
