The graphics settings >on the left shows how much Vram is being used.
Update your gpu drivers.
Example. my gpu back then had only 3 gig Vram and updating the drivers helped with some settings.
This is just an example to show the Vram used on the left.

something in the game is preventing me from changing any graphic settings and idk why.
aka if i go and turn of motion blur it will tell me to restart the game which i do and then when it relaunchs it says i have no memory when i checked before restarting and its at 4 gb.
so even if i lower all the settings to all low aka lowest performace aka all the way to the left of the slide and turn down some other settings it will tell me to restart and then i do and then it says i have no memory.
if i change any of the graphic settings and restart it will say i have no memory even tho i just change 1 thing or lower the settings to like 2 gb of vram out of 8 gb.
this game is just bad at changing settings with out crashing i guess idk what is wrong with me changing the settings.
Not once you are in the game world.
This game will not allow you to change Graphics related settings on-the-fly while the game world has been loaded (Story or Online). So do that by clicking Story and then Settings.
I can't see why you'd have a tough time figuring out what settings is good for your hardware when compared to other games.
Changes to the Camera and Audio settings can be done when in the game world though, as this is saved to a separate file. For example I liked having the music in Story Mode, but it can get somewhat loud and annoying at times in the Online. So I have the SFX @ 100% and then changed the Music volume to around 20-30%, while in the game world, no problem.
but when i restart the game claims i have no memory left when i actually in fact was using 2 gb of my 8 gb of vram.
i want to run on everything off or low to max out the highest possible fps to have it run like silk but instead it just crashs after restart and says i have no memory.
i do this every game since idc about graphics but the sweet fps but this game is so annoying it won't let me run on everything low or off and just keep saying i have no memory and forces me to use safe mode and turn everything back to default.
prob a bug in the game so it actually would be so nice i can set all the settings to low in the launcher and then it would have no reason to crash in game.
Then launch the game and change your settings again.
Do not set the game to DX12, leave it on Vulkan and you won't have a problem.
When you use the DX12 API option in this game, you are usually going to run into an Out of Memory issue. I've tried it even on $5000 PCs with all the latest CPU + GPU (12GB VRAM) and 64GB of system RAM. This game still has this same issue of out of memory if I apply the DX12 API setting.
Todays Console Ports mostly use Vulkan, because they were designed to run on Sony PS and MS Xbox, which all use AMD hardware.
There is not a real down-side to Vulkan. Doom-2016 has proven that much.
