[SOLVED] Steam Overlay Mod?
It's been 3 years since release, and still, when I open Steam Overlay I softlock myself inside the game, I can't turn it off, nor to anything with it.

Rockstar obviously doesn't care, and it hurts me so much, RDR2 is freaking fantastic.

But somebody out there has to have fixed it for them, community always does, so if someone has made or is aware of this mod, please link it to me.

Much appreciated. <3

don't know what things you have tried to fix it,
but have you tried changing the overlay hotkey in steam?
so it's not shift+tab, because those are used ingame for sprint and weapon wheel right?
personally have mine on the - in the top right of my numpad.
Mod not required, common sense is.

Rebind overlay on Steam settings.

Problem solved...
Strange, Steam overlay works for me anyways on either Vulcan or DX12.

Anyways glad you got the issue sorted and can enjoy the game.

Apologies for my earlier post, I was in a irritable mood at the time.

overlay and tapping out works like a charm for me on this game.

This is weird. I think I have this issue. Basically when you open the overlay it stays open and frozen, but it's like it crashed, and isn't actually up, so you can actually move in-game with the frozen overlay obscuring most of the screen, right?

I've been playing for a bit, and now I suddenly seem to have this issue when I didn't have it before, and I'm pretty sure my settings haven't changed at all. Very strange, not even totally sure if it's the game's fault honestly but I definitely would like a solution. The one about DX12 definitely isn't a feasible long-term solution since DX12 tends to run worse and feels very unstable at times.

Hey, yeah, that's a quick description of the problem, and DX12 seemed like the most popular solution, as for me, I couldn't get the overlay to work with Vulkan whatsoever, but, if you enable DX12, you just need to re-launch your game 2 or 3 times for it to take effect, it worked for me that way.

DX12 is so unstable for me that there are times where I've set the game to that API, and the game crashes upon launch. I had to edit the settings file back to Vulkan to actually play it again, so it's very bad for me.

For now the best workaround for me is using task manager to close the steam 'gameoverlayui.exe' process. It doesn't stop it from freezing whenever you use the Steam overlay, but it does allow you to actually play again without restarting the game since it closes the overlay so you can see everything again.

I don't know if Rockstar is to blame for this stuff, but I'll blame them anyway, since it seems their PC versions are still really wonky and they do ♥♥♥♥-all to actually change any issues with it. Their stupid game still resets some of my settings every time I launch the game.
