Post game grief.
Anyone else feel the same way when they complete a game with a investing story? Every Kojima game makes me feel this way, I feel like im grieving for the ending, and that the story is done.

I wouldn't want a prequel or sequel to dutch's gang, a good story has an ending that will always leave us wanting more but we know it wouldn't do it any good.

Anyone else experiencing/experienced this? Would doing a new game right away make me feel a bit better?

I'm in my 4th Playthru - so yes, it does soften the blow.

Thanks for the tip chief, ill start a fresh play through tomorrow morning.

Other than 100% the game, is there anything else I can do post game? I swung by Armadillo protected it, but was still burnt up when I slept and came back, swept through thieves landing shot up the gang there, not sure what else to do. Game feels so empty now that I can't trigger new dialogue.

If you haven't played rdr1, i'd highly suggest doing so, or watching a play-through of you can't. I also find playing a games multiplayer always helps me when I'm missing a games story.

Thanks for the tip! I have played RDR1 I would 100% replay it if they had it on PC :/. I remember as a kid I would YouTube glitches at Mcfarlene ranch/Johns house to clip inside. The black water glitch for online zombies was so much fun. I think you could never die and sit on the roof of black water buildings.

Shame tho the game feels so empty now :/.

It depends how much side stuff you did before the epilogue. There are many many many random encounters that keep things interesting, but unfortunately the game dumps all that cash on you and leaves you with the feeling that there's nothing else to do, I recommend getting rid of all that cash and starting from scratch (for example there are also single player mods for selling or dropping guns, so you can build up your whole inventory from nada again too if you like).

If you go to campfires occasionally you will encounter people who invite you to sit down with them and share a story, which can point to other sidequest stuff too, just as one example of the many random things. I very often seem to find something new whenever I play, but I can have fun just hunting or mucking about too.

I don't like to play Arthur when he's sick. It's depressing in Chapter 6 and for me the game is over in the Epilogues.

In 4 playthrus I have planned and modded the game enough so that Arthur can complete all the challenges, hunt all the Legendaries, Catch all the fish, Do all the Hunting Requests and beat down the required number of Gang Hideouts. The Treasures are collected, the Talismans and Trinkets are acquired, The Dino Bones and Rock Carvings discovered. Enough stranger encounters to complete (probably still more undiscovered).

As soon as 6 starts I get the Bullgator and start Hamish and Charlotte, then blaze through the story as I finish Hamish/Charlotte and work on Algernon. It's a mad dash to the Epilogues really. I don't waste any time.

The only thing for John to do is tie up Jeremy Gill, Mrs. Hobbs and a few other things I am probably forgetting, but it's not very long after the credits roll, that John is done and a new game started. I always get one or two 'Hide The Squirrel' replacements done, then lose interest. It's just not important enough to worry about.

He's filthy rich. Last time he had $38K. I'm gonna see if he can break $40k this time...lol

I hope that the rumors on RDR1 being reworked in the RDR2 engine and released for PC are true. I believe Rockstar could make a small fortune off of this. Whether it would take a small fortune to do the remake is the question about whether this could happen.

I never completed the game playing it normally but i recently done a full playthrough in VR using VorpX & it was amazing, felt like i was actually Arthur rather than just playing as Arthur so yeah i am very much grieving, a great game & also the best experience i have had in VR even though it is not a VR game.

Tip for those who have or are going to try it in VR using VorpX:

On my system (5700XT 8GB & Ryzen 3600) to get it looking & working good in VR i had to set a custom resolution of 1400x1700 (i used Custom Resolution Utility which is a free download to do this) i use a Rift S headset & Oculus Tray Tool with the super sampling set to 1.5 & ASW set to 45hz forced, set the resolution scale slider in the RDR2 options to as high as you can go without losing performance (i set mine to x1.5 or x1.25 in Saint Denis) most other options i have on ultra, high or medium with a couple on low.

For anyone that want to see videos of what it looks & plays like in VR with VorpX you can find my playthrough here: https://odysee.com/@tcttgames:8

I really don't know how people have "post-game grief" about a story-oriented game where every character is either unlikable, a manipulative stereotype, an outdated trope, or a caricature. Granted I never liked the writing in all the Kojima games I played either, so I'm sure there's some divergence of pure taste, but even in a messy and undercooked story like the one in Death Stranding, I felt at least a little bad about finishing the game, and missing some cool moments and characters. What about this game will you miss? It's an amalgamation of unfinished and unsatisfying loose ends, it gives you the most basic binary choices to decide Arthur's ultimate sense of morality (except when it doesn't, because you can go kill the feminist protestor or the eugenics guy, but killing a gunslinger or a bunch of irresponsible circus people is beyond Arthur's capacity), and it's got all the moral ambiguity of For a Fistful of Dollars, except stretched out to 60+ hours of pain rather than 2 hours. If someone could please explain to me what about this game except the admittedly cool (but overly restrictive) open world traversal mechanic, alongside all the wildlife and fishing/hunting systems, makes them sad their experience is over, I would love to hear it; after playing this game twice, I sure would like something to find enjoyable, outside the decent but not outstanding graphics and the fact they included a bunch of animals hunting each other.

I remember my first play thru and yeah kinda felt the same but when you start a new play thru you are looking things then differently and maybe get new feelings in different missions etc.

I'm about to finish my third play thru and still I'm finding new areas in the map. My advice is that don't rush Chapters 2 and 3 --> imho they are the best times when you can just explore the map, find treasures, hunt, do side missions and challenges etc.

I'm in my 4th playthru and still finding stuff to do - or doing stuff differently. Already making plans to be even more efficient in playthru 5.

1500+hrs - and can say without a doubt - 60hr completion is like being strapped to a rocket and shot from start to finish. There wasn't time to learn the controls, or experience the world. All that got done was sprinting a horse from one place to another - missing everything between.

Those folks want Doom 20 Leapin' Deathmatch.
This game isn't that.

I'm a 70 year old has been, beat up and broken, have had Carpal Tunnel for decades, arthritic and almost blind - I didn't particularly like the controls, but the game was worth any extra effort on my part to rebind keys I can reach and learn what does what.

I'm having a blast.

It would be nice for a happy ending once in a while. I am not saying every games needs to be all happy sunshine and rainbows, but it would be nice if we can get a RDR or a beautifully crafted story where it turns out good for someone.

It seems to be the trend, that to get a good emotional or committed story. It has to be dark, and everyone should either suffer of die at the end, or at least live what ever life they have left in absolute misery. Why is it writers can only write a story where someones redemption arc requires death.

You're like that guy who tells a story as he's dying, and then he says "just kidding, I wasn't dying, this time I'm really dying" and tells another story, only to do it all over again. But someone has to be insufferable.

Dunno how that answers my question or what that even means, but thank you for your opinion either way!

I've had post-game grief but not with RDR2. Maybe because I was spoiled about pretty much everything. The story is good but its hard to get truly invested when gameplay and story are at odds with one another. Other than that, I beat the Epilogue, explored RDR1's map, finished the gangs off and felt pretty bored after that. I had spent so long in Arthur's section that I saw pretty much everything, the immersion ran out. Open world games always devolve after enough time, the illusion is shattered and you see how artificial it is. So I kind of wish I ended playing when the credits rolled but I persevered another dozen or so hours and it ended RDR2 on a sour note.
