Panther in the Bayou

I had heard they put a Panther in the Bayou. In 4 Playthroughs I never saw one and basically stopped looking.

I was heading back from somewhere, about midnight, in Chapter 3, and thought I'd take a turn through the Bayou and see if I could trigger a Night Folk Encounter, so I could get them out of the way.

I was heading in by Pleasance, headed for the bridge to Bluewater Marsh and the Turkoman grunted once, just the way he grunts when he sees a predator and I don't. I looked at the mini-map and about 50 yards away a red dot was coming on strong.

I thought, Bear maybe, but Arthur never said "Get Back"... this thing is coming, so I grabbed the bow, got the Turk turned sideways, and I could see those big yellow eyes now... it came out of the bushes, flat out - like a Freight Train. I stuck it just in the nick of time.

It was 2 stars... bummer. It was coming out of the Macombs End area, near the little Spoonbill Pond.

There's a Panther in the Bayou. Confirmed.

There's a couple of possible locations where you can find a panther: to the east of Lagras in Bayou Nwa and in the forest around the Old Harry Fen shack in Scarlett Meadows. When wanting to hunt panthers for pelts for either the Trapper or Kit Satchel upgrade the Scarlett Meadows location is the better one. ;) Best hunted from a distance though because panthers and cougars are really fast and agile once they get close! Panthers do seem to like lurking in bushes so they can just pounce on you before you get the chance to react! Yes, I learnt that lesson the hard way!

Yea, the Harry Fen cat never leaves Harry Fen. That one is easy, from the Rocks in the SE intersection. Got all I needed right there.

This one, apparently has a wide range, 'cause the Panther Icon was drawn way to the East. I killed this one basically in the road near Pleasance - outside the Bayou.

1500 hrs and I never saw one until tonight. I hope it's rare. Gators, Snakes and a Panther? Oh my...lol

Yep, that whole area is a hunters dream, but it's also so very deadly! The swamps can certainly teach a good few lessons in how to hunt! It's also a good spot to find out just how quickly you can die!

I had a weird experience with that Bayou Panther tonight actually. I was going after the 19lb fish so heading to the Lengedary Longnose gar location. I was in eagle eye already just checking for gators and he came out of nowhere. I cancelled eagle eye to go into deadeye and shoot him and he disappeared. I didn't try to track him or anything to see what happened, I was trying to go fishing so just counted my blessings. Never had that happen before, had to be some kinda bug unless he got scared by a gator or something.

Same thing happened with a Cougar when I was hunting the Legendary Moose.

I got the first clue, then heard and saw a Cougar behind me - he went behind a bush and vanished. Ruined the hunt, 'cause I was watching for that Cougar the whole time...lol

I don't think they're supposed to interfere with a mission or task, like a Legendary Hunt and will 'unspawn' themselves. I was hunting the Legendary Buck and a Black Bear was sitting under a tree washing... and watching me... walk right past him.
"Yogi", I said - "I'm goin' thisaway".
He must not have gotten the 'despawn' memo, but looked pretty benign to me.

Yeah this one was full lunge at my horses butt when I saw him, then he was gone. I'll take a win when I can get it, goes the other way plenty.
