cause if you have single player, you have online aswell.
anyway, what stats are you going from?
cause for example RDO on steam stats might list 3.3k average.
but RDR2 would need a portion of that added aswell (18k average),
cause the players who have that can play online aswell.
+ ofcourse the players that bought it from the rockstar launcher and aren't counted on steam's stats.
now it's not close to gta at all with its 73k average.
but then again gta has a lot more years for people to get into it.
and i'm guessing that the wild west will still be more of a niche genre.
instead of the flashy cars and modern stuff that gta has.
as for the grinding.
i've played gta5 for 4 years i think.
rdr2 for about 2 now.
for me gta5 grind felt a lot more slow and painfull,
and hard hitting when you buy something,
your month worth of grinding was just gone on that 1 purchase.
rdr2 on the other hand, has a Very slow starting grind,
but once you're used to it, it really isn't bad in my opinion.
so i'll just put the lower player count on the younger masses wanting more high octane gameplay and flashy stuff from gta5,
instead of the old/dirty and slower wild west appeal.
Comparatively, purchasing weapons, upgrades, even clothing is WAY more expensive in Red Dead Online.
Eventually, after you unlock some well paying roles things start feeling more reasonable, but the initial grind is pretty rough. o_o
That's not true, I bought the game but not the online part of it, GTA 5 comes with both the story mode and online but RDR2 doesn't so I don't have online.
rdr2 has rdo included, it's a package.
rdo is only seperated multiplayer without singleplayer.
cause i have rdr2, and online is included.
edit: from the store page section "about this game".
Red Dead Redemption 2 also includes free access to the shared living world of Red Dead Online
Also, generally there isn't a big enough audience for Red Dead Online... which kinda sucks. I love the Online and Rockstar is really being the lazy parent and doing nothing about it.
I had no idea... Thanks to you and to the others that have pointed that out. Cheers.

There are advantages and disadvantages to private lobbies. The biggest advantage is that you will eliminate all cheaters. You and your friends (those who know your private lobby name and have the mod) may enjoy RDO together in peace.
The biggest disadvantage is that it will only be you and those who know your private lobby name and have the mod who will be able to join your RDO world.
The web site above explains it in more detail.
You saved the game for me, thank you very much. Unbelievable how fun this game can be without cheaters...
This feature completely remove the online function of rdr2. Rockstar and Take Two being who they are, absolute disgusting human trash, i reckon they will try to take it down. at this point they can't do ♥♥♥♥.
If they try to update rdr2 to get rid of it luckily i use a depotdownloader that let's me roll back patches, i am prepared so this patch is already on my pc being ready to be patched back to the previous version.
Me 1 Rockstar 0.
Take two the lowlife human beings went after gta V mods, it's more than likely they will go after this too, go get it while you can boys.

Saving the day again, thank you! Roles are fun now, game is worthing now. I don't have patience with trash comunities anymore. I'm coming from F76 which is very friendly. I was surprised by the fact that this game is unplayable online under normal rules...
GTA Online has this, but not Red Dead Online for some odd reason. :/
Then again, GTA Online also has multiple character slots, ability to choose mission difficulties, customizable PvP matches, homes, heists, text chat, etc…
*Sigh* This poor poor game. :(
