[SOLVED] FPS is locked at 20-40 fps
My game will only run at roughly 20-40 fps. If I try to change the graphics settings to low it'll crash. Even if it doesn't, it still runs at the same FPS at much lower graphics. I've also tried verifying game files and redownloading it, nothing seems to work. If anybody has any ideas please let me know.

PC Specs:
16GB RAM
1TB SSD
Nvidia GTX 1080 Max-Q 8GB VRAM
Intel Core i7 7700 2.80GHz with 8 cores

Some Basic Suggestions - after you upgrade to the very latest Nvidia driver:

1) Disable the Integrated Graphics - if present - by any means necessary.

2) At the initial Launch Screen, go to Settings/Graphics and Select DX12, not Vulcan.

3) While you're there - move the Quality Slider to the first tick into 'Favor Quality' (or whatever it's called). The bar should be about 3/4s of the way to the right. Make no other adjustments at this time.

4) Apply settings.

Give it a go. If it runs without crashing, you can adjust individual graphics settings up or down to tune in on the fps performance - one at a time preferably. That's a whole nuther ball game. Tree Tessellation and Shadows are heavy hitters in my burg.

More seasoned Nvidia Wranglers will have to chime in. I run AMD stuff.

dont helps for me, playing on RTX 3070 max-q, i7 11370h, 16gb DDR4, sometimes i can see out of memory error, lol (i have 8Gb videocard)

So I have tried this before too and it doesn't work bro sadly
maybe you connected your screen to the error HDMI interface, the correct solution is to connect the hdmi interface of your screens's to the hdmi interface on your graphic card, you may incorrectly plug in you hdmi to the motherboard. If so, the cpu will work rather than your GTX1080. my english is still not fluent, but i hope this will bbe helpful to you.:judy:

I don't know what resolution you are running but if you are running 4K, you might actually be running out of memory.

For me I know for sure I can't do 4K. So at a native 1920x1080 resolution

ummmmm....perhaps you inhibited the graphic card? do you have a msi afterburner? this software can examine the frequency of your graphic card. if its frequency is relatively low and does not fluctuate with time, then it might indicate that you are using cpu rather than using them (graphic card+cpu) to work together.:evelyn2077:

This still didn't work unfortunately....

1. Go to graphics and make sure Vsync is set to off. Vsync will lock it to refresh rate, and half will cap it to half of that.
2. Go into your Nvidia control panel and manually set the FPS cap. To do this go to manage 3D settings, click program settings go to preferred refresh rate and make sure it's set to "application controlled" and set power management to maximum performance. Hope that helps.

2) I tried installing NVidia Control Panel and it is apparently not compatible with the current driver. Also could not find anything related framerate in Geforce Experience, I tried changing the settings from there but it keeps resetting for some reason. Also when I click Ctrl + Esc, the game always crashes / closes.
Ploopy Feb 7, 2022 @ 1:03am
Anybody got any ideas to what is the problem? I've checked Geforce Experience and it has the latest drivers installed
Don Dimon Feb 7, 2022 @ 2:30am
Same problem, although I've got less of a rig than OP - i5-6600 and GTX 1060 6GB.
20 FPS on Ultra, 40 FPS on low. This ain't right. There must be solution to this:(

GTX 1060 should be enough of a video card to run the game along with that processor
