For me - here are my issues:
1) I don't like John.
2) I don't like John's Voice Actor. <---he is a terrible actor.
3) Arthur's voice actor is fantastic. <---another failure by R* Developers is not securing a great voice actor to play John. The guy they got is just reading lines. They probably found him having a Bum Wash in the sink at the Exxon Station and hired him on the spot.
4) New Austin is a crap hole - there is nothing interesting going on there, but after the game ends there isn't much of interest going on at all - anywhere.
5) every vendor you meet in Blackwater is an A-Hole, they don't want to help you, would rather you leave them alone - and you'll get in trouble for murdering them...lol
But... if you like riding around in the Desert, in dust storms - go for it. It's only a 14,000 mile round trip from Beechers Hope to Roanoke Ridge to find a Rock Carving, or Dino Bone - and you'll get a Cougar on each end of the trip to make sure you're still awake.
I'll finish the game with Arthur doing most of it - and get the heck out of Desert Dodge ASAP after the game ends in Chapter 6.
;)
Here's a Pro-Tip you should probably be made aware of:
If you've met Charlotte as Arthur - finish her story - or it doesn't end well for her.
If you haven't met Charlotte as Arthur, you can meet her as John and finish her story, or it doesn't end well for her.
Don't loot her stuff, man.
She's rich and so are you.
:D
Arthur is great, even if he sounds like he's doing a Stone Cold Steve Austin impression half of the time. That and hacking up his lungs from consumption after a certain collection and chapter point.
I'm not trying to argue with you Juice, but the epilogue does have some merit in terms of narrative.
If you want to mod your game so Arthur doesn't die (or dies later), more power to you, I wish he didn't die along with a few other gang members. But you can't have RDR1 without said sacrifices. You can't have John hunt down Bill, Javier and Dutch without the events of RDR2's epilogue.
I don't own, and have never owned, and will never own a console.
If they want me to play RDR1 - they'd be advised to release it for PC...:)
Oh Arthur dies - There's no mod to keep him going.
I just mod the game so Arthur can do almost everything - so John has to do very little to complete the game.
For me:
John has to meet Mrs Hobbs to complete Hunting Requests. Arthur can hunt all the animals, but he never gets the final mailed invitation to her house to see all the little dead critters frozen in a Death Embrace.
John has to Meet Mr. Gill to complete Legendary Fish. Arthur can catch all the fish, but he never gets the mailed invitation to Gill Manor for the punch line.
That's basically it. I may have forgotten something John must do... it's a big game. It's not much tho.
Arthur can find all the bones, and meet Flippy Snacks - the crazy Dino Lady, for the prize.
Arthur can beat up The Doritos Gang and take all the Gang Hideouts.
Arthur can hunt all the legendaries - and really needs that Pronghorn Trinket - John doesn't.
Arthur has access to FIELDS of English Mace - to keep him alive - you may have heard he has TB. John Doesn't have TB, but he is an A-Hole. A Healthy A-Hole at that. He doesn't need English Mace.
Arthur can finish all the challenges to get all the upgrades to his stats.
Arthur can Score all the Treasures.
Arthur can acquire all the Trinkets and Talismans.
Arthur can get all the Trapper skins to acquire every piece of Trapper Clothing - I just did that this time for the first time. Those garments are ridiculous and now I won't have to do that again - it's not required for 100% - I just wanted to do it once.
That's about it.
I don't care what happens in RDR1 if I can't play it - and I don't kill John, so he can go on to see his homestead fall into ruin, then take off on a killing spree if he wants to. He'll have lots of energy, 'cause he sure won't have much to do in RDR2's Epilogues to make him tired...
1600hrs and that crackhead couldn't even bring a 1 star rabbit home to camp. I saw him run over at least 2 - and didn't even stop to pick them up.
Lazy Bastid...
:D
And don't play the PC Master Race card with me.
I've been building PCs since the Commodore 64 was wearing short pants. That is not the matter here. I'm not trying to measure ♥♥♥♥♥. I'm telling you RDR1 was amazing, narrative wise. You would do well to play/watch that game.
And I'm not challenging you in any other way. You've helped me out in many of my questions on this game. But don't let stubbornness impede useful dialogue.
I can't use a controller. I've tried. It's not happening.
I have a feeling RDR1 will make it to PC - but I do hope they hurry up.
I don't exactly have an unlimited window in my lifespan left to wait for it.
I'd love to play it tho - if that's what R* has been waiting for... they can go ahead now.. I have money I can't take with me.. come get it...lol
You can watch tube videos on how the Van der linde Gang, what is left of it, ends up in the predicament they're in, in 1911. Johnny Marston, your antagonist, is pressured by the Bureau of Investigation to turn coat on his former gang members.
Abigail, Uncle and Jack are the government's pawns in this scheme and they are expendable in the RDR1 narrative.
You should check it out.
In other words, did you like Hosea, did you like Lenny? Then check out Jack Marston's epilogue in RDR1. It's as simple as that.
Wait, honestly, you never played RDR1 and you don't know how little Jack Marston and his arch plays out?
Bro, find a way to play or watch RDR1. The story makes way more sense that way.
I have RDR2 down pat. I know how I like to play it.
One day - I hope to play RDR1. Then in 1600hrs I'll know how to play it.
You will probably never play RDR1 on an official PC release because R* has said the code is a mess. It's why even most emulators can't run the game without game breaking bugs, but Xenia can.
Or, you can spend 30-40 bucks for a used 360 and another 10-15 for a used copy on RDR1, then use a USB M/K to play the game. 360 does in fact have M/K support for RDR1.

... and why not, right?
the map is already done - I've endured Dust Storms, fended off attacks by The Doritos Bandits and I've been snake bit there more times than I care to mention. I built that lame-ass Marston a house. If he's gonna turn it into a slum, I want to see all he's 'not done with the place' in all it's horrific glory.
I don't want to play some hack-job if a Remaster and PC release will happen before the big bucket is kicked in my neighborhood - by me.
I'm still playing this game ATM. I'm in no rush and furthermore - I've seen some video of RDR1. It is NOT pretty. It would be a major shock to my system and we don't want to shock this system..lol
