It reloads (too) fast, and is a pleasant enough mix between power and firing rate in a nice single-action package with a sound that doesn't get too annoying on the ears. :D
Also, everyone can count up to six without looking. Like, eveeeeeeryone!
People are too quick to replace the Cattleman.
They should upgrade it instead.
The second best weapon is:
The Bow
This^^
Except for occasionally a pistol and long-scoped bolt-action rifle, this is about the only weapon I use .
It covers just about everything you'll ever need to take down, from chipmunks to grizzly, and can actually hit targets at insanely long distances, with everything from small-game arrows to dynamite and fire arrows.
And it's silent.
I took 6 Perfect Quail with it earlier and didn't even disturb the 3* Buck just beyond them and it too fell to the Master Weapon - The Bow.
...and I got all my 'Ammo' back
The Horse just stood there twiddling it's hooves..
:)
Online:
The Navy Revolver is... Fun - for 6 rounds until you have to reload it.
The upgraded Cattleman is the only sidearm anyone needs and is a fantastic weapon.
Single Handed, so you have a free hand to 'fan' with - and it's rate of fire is off world.
It reloads in the blink of an eye, nearly has the range of a Lancaster and is deadly accurate.
Bolt Action (or The Bow/Stealth) for Ranged Human opponents.
Your Favorite Repeater for wild Dogs - pick one - I like the Litch.
Rolling Block (or of course, The Bow/Improved Arrow) for Massive Animals or Sniping, if required.
...and a Varmint Rifle for...
Rabbits and Beaning the Heads off Turkeys, Geese, Badgers, Opossums, etc.
There you have it.
Cattlemans is fantastic, reloads fast in a battle, fast shooting, can be controlled very well and overall alright damage.
Varmint Rifle may be weak but it's amazing if you get constant headshots. Fast as hell fire, easy to reload.
Semi-Auto shotgun can easily prank the enemy if they're trying to flank, great to spam and fun to use. Also amazing damage.
In Single Player the LeMat is the reigning hand cannon and is fine, but it's reload is painfully slow - as slow as the Navy Revolver. It is fun to have a magnum sidearm - to give Murfrees explosive ammo with - now that's worth the price of admission.
I was never able to shoot Archibald before he walked behind that post during "A Short Walk in a Pretty Town' with the LeMat, but the Cattleman got everybody on the porch and left Bill standing...lol
True, but 2 LeMats have 18 rounds. So if you aim well or use Deadeye you don´t have to reload that much. I really like this thing. It´s not as good looking as the classic Navy Colt. Actually it is pretty ugly. But for me there´s no better gun for short range combat.
A Free Hand to 'Fan' with - and away you go.
Of course, that just means you have to reload sooner, but hey... was it worth it? You bet ur ass it was...lol
those things are just so satisfying to use when filled with solid slugs and you use dead eye.
just 4 shots as fast as you can click.
but personal favorites/selection:
2x lemats, or 2x sawn off's,
lancaster repeater,
bolt action rifle.
I usually don't even buy a second sawn off until late when I have more money than The Game and even then, It's only been fired at wolves rescuing John. It was customized and packed away in the locker waiting for it's twin - at some point - to gather dust..lol
I don´t care much about the firing rate because I´m excessively using Deadeye. I mean RDR is a great game but it´s not a real shooter and the enemies are constantly running around like scared chickens.
