There is this one legendary fish I literally just cannot catch
It's the one right in front of the waterfall next to Charlotte's house. I'm using a special river lure, because it's a river, duh, and I am catching nothing but muskies, despite them having a preference for lake lures, they are the only thing biting my hook. I have tried literally casting dozens of times from both sides of this river, even from behind the waterfall at every area I see gatherings of fish, and I am catching exclusively muskies. How do I catch the damn legendary fish?

I even tried using dynamite to kill off the muskies so that they wouldn't be everywhere but that still didn't help. I swear to god there is no legendary fish here, it's just muskies.

Some fish have specific spawn points. For some you can't just cast anywhere. Try watching a video and see the spot the cast from and the direction

Alright, I've give that a shot. Also, weird bug but not game breaking or anything. I caught the legendary muskie off the coast of van horn but the map hasn't updated and it shows the fish symbol as if I haven't yet caught it.

Yeah that is one of the fish with strange spawns. Most of them are pretty easy to catch with just the map. Another fish that gave me trouble is the one way up north west with the ice.

Did you mail the fish? Maybe you're running some mods as well.

Is it the Legendary Steelhead Trout ?
Use your dead eye or red eye, you’ll need to buy some special bait to catch him.
Try this guide should help you

You don't even need to mail the fish for the map to update, but yes, I did. Also, I am only running a single mod but it wouldn't cause that bug. It's just a model replacement for the boar tusk talisman that makes it a poncho. Changes to a model would not affect a script. I wonder if it would let me catch the fish twice. That would probably break the game.

Yeah I was already doing exactly this. Standing on that same spot casting in that same spot with that exact lure for like an hour straight nothing but muskies.

Stand on the rock - equip the rod - activate Eagle Eye.
If the fish is in there - you should see it.
Throw the lure at it.

Honestly I hadn't thought of using Eagle Eye on fish. I hope that will be the solution.

Man - EE let's me put the lure right on a pocket of trout/sockeye/legendary - avoiding the tug of war with a log. Mostly.

Also, look at the water surface - it'll look like there's a nuclear sub down there ready to 'Porpoise'. There's no mistaking that for anything else, but a Legendary.

Lastly - if fish is really deep - throw lure in that direction as far as you can, then give it the 'twitch', then reel like hell until the lure is closer to you, then slow back down, then stop. You should see the Sub move the water surface toward the lure - then hang on.

Casual Observation:
The developers, possibly by mistake, modeled the water and things in it quite accurately. A fisherman all my life I know that:
The Surface of moving shallow water looks like the ground beneath it.
Waves break at the beach over a sand or rock bar.
Nuclear subs in 10 feet of water - look like Nuclear Subs moving the water.
We call those - 'The Unstoppables" - you can't really catch those with Surf Gear, but you can catch 'em with a cane pole and cotton line in this game.

BTW:
When we cut off an 'Unstoppable' - we don't get the lure back (or the 100 yards of line).

:)

Imagine how many half-dissolved fish hooks are inside the thing's gut.

Probably not many, they rot pretty quickly, if it doesn't kill it, but yes, my God yes. There is a lot of gear in the water - that just keeps right on fishing... unfortunately.

In the real world, we (most/some) use Circle Hooks - pretty much a lip hook every time - and if that breaks off - well, it looks like the girl that sold you a spicy big bite at 7-11 this morning that had herself attacked by a carpet stapler - on purpose.

;)

I'm not even going to try and imagine what you just described.

Dunno if it's been answered yet, but I caught mine on the other side of the river from her house, close by the waterfall, there is a big flat rock kind of under water but like ankle deep. From there cast across the river, and you should get it with the special river lure no trouble.
Jericho Feb 21, 2022 @ 8:49am
So, this is kind of concerning. I'm holding the fishing rod and using eagle eye, and I don't see it at all. Every fish native that to river is there, but no legendary, and the map is still not updating that I already caught the legendary muskie by van horn. I think that maybe my game is bugged and it's not spawning the legendary steelhead.
