note: you have to hold down the button untill cinematic mode is active.
and if you have any direction keys pressed while moving, your horse will go off the waypoint track.
so my advice:
stand still on the road with waypoint set > enable cinematic > press Sprint several times.
your horse should auto track on the path then.
or try hitting sprint a few times when you're on the move and enabled cinematic mode.
i have crashed into NPCs while "auto riding" as you call it
Fast Travel - enabled from the Map at Camp or from temporary camp works much better
yeah but sometimes you just want to get some coffee or tea while your horse drives to a non fast travel location.
or a nice lazy trader delivery that doesn't get a npc attack.
just jam that sprint key with a toothpick and go do whatever needs to be done in real life :p
Don't go AFK too long... your Horse may need a doctor.
(speaking of: I've been moving house - don't worry - I haven't kicked the bucket - yet...lol)
RIght - but for me, while on auto-pilot, Arthur slammed head long into a couple of Bounty Hunters carrying a Bounty - the Bounty Hunters decided they were under attack, so once they righted themselves, they began shooting Arthur.
In this case, you would leave for coffee or bio, and come back to a "ur dead" restart screen, and minus 10% of ur dollars.
As i said, and another said, use caution.
*Edit I posted default for V but didn't read your whole comment sorry about that
