lake lure at a lake,
river lure at a river,
swamp lure at a swamp....
and lures are for bigger fish,
so if you see mostly small fish,
it can take some minutes before a large fish spots your lure yeah.
on a side note/tip:
* toggle dead eye before casting out the lure,
* aim for the big fish and cast.
* press the fire button 1x (that you give your fishing rod a quick tug < wich counts as a trigger to lure the fish faster, don't press it 2x though, cause that will scare the fish away),
* toggle dead eye again,
* slowly reel in, can even be interrupted by tapping the reel button.
* course correct if you see a fish on the right or left side while in dead eye, by pushing your fishing rod to the right or left side < moving the lure in a slightly different direction and path.
I am slowly tapping space occasionally, I think that's it right?
Yep, but you'll also want to set your reeling-in speed to the slowest setting using R (and F to speed up again), and you will also want to occasionally flick the line by left clicking. Also, I prefer to hold space for constant motion for the same reason we flick. That is trying to fool fish in to thinking the lure is alive. :)
Even so, using lures requires more patience that live bait fishing even if you're doing all of those things.
Swamp lure for swamp is all BS.
I specifically only use Special Lake and Swamp lures and I catch all kinds, everywhere.
Lures have to be in motion to work.
Nothing else will hit it - and when you're loading the wagons you don't want to have to stop for a tug of war with a giant logfish.
