it might look and feel a bit weird,
like the gta first person mode,
the shooting works fine though.
but yeah it's possible.
just check your controls for the camera view key,
there's close up / med range / long range third person,
followed by first person view.
With a keyboard, the V key switches your view between the modes described above. You can also remap keys or buttons. I suck at using controllers frankly but with keyboard play accidental key presses are a very real thing. I actually remapped my 'take cover' key because I was getting sick of accidentally diving for cover in the saloon and such. :)
Yes, I have tried it, but like any game, not just this one (and in imo) unless the game was primarily designed for FP you will lose a lot of situational awareness in that mode. That will have a real effect on game play especially in large battles, but then, I can't say I played long enough in that mode to get used to it.
I have also used other controllers in the past as long as it was for my OS it was plug and play pretty much...the best thing about controllers is the vibration and stuff it really brings games to the next level and given this game has Full control support it really is a game changer.
I have never played this game in first person. Third person takes some getting used to, but once you do, you will miss third person in other games :)
I have seen posts here of others that play this game in first person only, so i do believe it is feasible - but not sure why you would want to unless ur a stubborn old man :D
Hope you stick with it Mac !
And do you like it in 1st per.?
I don't have a controller. I've never played with a contoiller. If I had one I'd give it a try.
Is that the "cover" @Dr. Quin Magna was talking about? "Q" on the keyboard? What did you map it to?
Not so worried about "situational awareness. I am just finishing a game... first person... where there are several large battles. I would prefer the real immersion of 1st per by a LONG SHOT.
I played Witcher 3 and hated, hated, hated it. For some, I suspect the god-like control of pulling Geralt's strings (or Arthur's?) is what they want. But for me there is no immersion at all in 3rd per. IMO...
Well, I keep hearing this and it intrigues me but no controller. Never had one. Want to lend me one? xD.
My hand me downs go to my boy lol .....They are pretty cheap though just for a windows 10 one .....make sure to go wired i dunno why we can control a rover on mars but cant get a controller to work wirelessly W/O input lag but ya
Yes, 'Q' is take cover. I remapped it to 'T'.
"If I look like a mean old man, that's what I am..." (Jerry Lee Lewis)
I hate third person. I 'm not a puppeteer. No immersion in it, IMO... no interest for me.
So i don't know if Ill refund it or not--it doesn't sound like the game works all that well in 1st per. No one is stepping up to say how good it is, at any rate. I'd rather not play it in 3rd.
Yes. i wonder about controller--seems like on this forum that's the preferred input in this game, and some even make it sound like it is connected to 1st per. as well.
Just weighing all the factors to decide whether to refund or not.
I'm 75 years old and have always played with mouse or trackball. I'm also on a fixed income. I can afford it but only because I've made it a policy not to buy stuff I don't need or won't use.
Let's start with the very silly weight system. You could kill and eat a WHOLE deer for dinner, and still need to stuff your face with candy or even eat multiple large meals in order to maintain weight which affects stats. The game effect is not too bad perhaps, but to me immersive would mean realistic. They got this part wrong by a long shot, imo.
Add to that the fact that many NPCs exist only to run in to you whether walking or riding. It's quite silly to see some person on a horse quite intentionally swerve to cause a collision. To boot, you are the one who is called an idiot for getting in the way. Especially in the early part of the story, you walk in to a saloon and some guy is programmed to run in to you. If it wasn't so obvious it probably wouldn't feel so faked.
Controls can be wonky regardless of what you choose as well. Like when I press the button to hitch my horse and it jumps up on the porch of the building I'm near instead.
I could go on all day. Yet, I still consider this the greatest game world ever produced. I'm 63 btw. :)
Anyway, I play the game probably 75/25 on third person and first person view.
I think the shooting is better in first person, but due to the narrow field of view, riding on horse is a bit bad there. I guess there should be some mod available, so it's probably fixable for the single player mode. I play exclusively on mouse and keyboard. The game as a rather unsually large array of bindable actions, and I find using the gamepad a bit clunky.
The game is visually breath-taking and the tps view lets you enjoy more those marvelous sceneries. The camera, by taking a step back, really makes you feel like you're in a wild world full of possibilities. On that point, the tps view is actually far more immersive than the fps one. Don't forget that the game is a very cinematic experience at times. That's not something the first person view can translate well. Plus you can't see all the awesome models' animations in fps view.
