AWFUL HAIR AND PIXELATED SHADOWS
Is anyone else having this problem that hairs and beards look awfully bad? I have most of the settings on Ultra and High and hairs still look like taken from 2012 game. Also shadows on Arhur are weirdly pixelated and it really makes the game look bad. Anyone found a fix for that?

I don't think it's related to PC specs. I already finished the game and I got used to it but I saw a video on Youtube where someone played on MAX settings on 4K and for him the hair also looked bad.

I've got Ryzen 2700X and a GTX1080Ti Aorus.
Shadows look just awful. Nothing helps.

Yeah, I'm playing it for the second time now and shadows look much better than before but sometimes they still look like taken straight from the early 00s games. Just pixels. To be honest I got used to it because I tried many options to fix it and nothing helped.

For me, run Soft Shadows off, TAA high as you can with FXAA and Shadows on High or Ultra.

Biggest change to fix the dust/fog pixelation and crappy hair is Soft Shadows off with TAA & FXAA set to On

Hey guys,
I think that i found what's wrong.

I've changed "resolution scale" of 1,000 to 1,500. (it's an option in graphic parameter menu). After this change, hair and pelt were really more beautiful and my pc don't have difficulties to run well.

Anyway, i use : TAA (High) ; FXAA (Yes) ; MSAA (No) ; Soft shadows (No) ; Anisotrope x16

Say me if it's better to you too.

When I play it again, I'll tell you if if works. Did your fps drop a little when you've changed the scale?

Man I can’t believe this problem still haven’t been solved. My god I was looking a solution for a whole year. It’s absolutely rockstar’s fault for lowering the resolution of the hairs.

Still no solution to this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ problem, I have literally tried everything, searched everywhere, and found NOTHING that helps. Rockstar is getting reamed in the a$$ by Take-Two to put all their effort towards RDO because Take-Two are a bunch of money hungry jews who are still slavering at the mouth about the success of GTA Online. As a result, Rockstar has not fixed a single ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bug since the first few patches after PC release. Unbelievable.

Increasing scale solves the problem, but I lost almost 20 fps in my 1070.
Switching to DX12 from Vulkan really spiked the graphics, shadow quality and frame rate for me

I always have had problems with my hair color changing with lighting.
For example it'll go grey indoors under lamplight or brown in the sun.

This game's soft shadows look terrible for me, but it could just be my graphics card. It's just one of those things. I honestly prefer sharp shadows overall anyway, so I leave the setting off.

Definitely something is off with this game when it comes to shadows or lighting. Now it's even worse than a year ago because I have a feeling that they reduced the FOV as some far shadows are kinda blurry and it changes only when you get close to it. Even some trees or grass changes sometimes right in front of your eyes. I've also noticed some glitches with shadows like flickering. I don't know if these glitches and FOV are related to the Online updates but one thing is for sure. The shadows and lightning always looked kinda bad in RDR2.
