Horse gone after death?
When riding out Saint Denis I got jumped by 7 or 8 Lemoyne Raiders and for some reason they managed to kill me. No idea why, I could have had low health but I never really pay attention to it. First time I die in a shootout in 87 hours :) (single player)

I spawned on the river banks and next to me was a horse that apparently now is mine. I've had the same horse through my entire game and it's the only one I got. I assume my horse got killed in the raid and the game appointed me a new one? I guess that is what must have happened. Can someone confirm this? My "old" horse is nowhere to be found. Not at the camp, nor at the stables.

Other times I died were more like accidents where my horse wasn't involved; I've never lost it before. It would make sense to lose my horse this time around. Just want to know that is indeed what happened 'cause I did not see my horse die when I got shot.

Go to a stables and check there. You should be able to retrieve it

It either died or it ran off because it was spooked. Just call your horse back. If that doesn't work, it would confirm your horse "passed". You have to get a new horse then.

My trusty horse was nowhere to be found so I caught myself a new one in the wild. It must have died in the shootout. Usually the game explains everything that happens. Guess this time I have to assume that this is what happened.

Did you check the stables?

Of course I did. I could get the same one for free (special edition), but no horses owned. My saddle was replaced to the new horse so I didn't lose that.

Getting the same horse twice didn't feel ok so I decided to catch one myself.

It's just weird the game didn't tell me my horse died (and I didn't see it happen either), but the circumstances totally allow for it: I was circled while on horseback out in the open... pretty efficient trap.

Yup happened to me. I died on a mission and lost both my starter horse and saddle. then i purchased another and couldnt afford a saddle so i had to save for another 40-50 bucks, so i just said screw it and made a new character.

And it called the scrawny nag my horses name several times before just going back to normal.

It’s dead. Horses do die. Check out the wiki. Same thing happened to mine. My first horse named horsey got replaced by a brown useless one, took me like 2 sittings to realize the horse I was riding with a symbol on it on the map, was in fact an impostor and not my real Horsey :(
Twas then that I realized that poor old Horsey died when I died in a shootout. Felt heartbreaking man.
