Anyone else slightly annoyed by the silent online characters?
Saints Row 2 and 3 had voiced characters. I'm pretty sure Red Dead could do it, too

dear god me why not a simple voice with a pitch changer oh i know they want to keep the expences as little as possible so we the consumer suffers.

FFS, all they need to do is get actors from the Online game to record lines. Just make it voices based off the other characters if you don't want to spend anything, and Chef it together.

they could have easly done something like Saints row witch 3 or 4 voice per gender + a pitch sliders or something

At least I think they looks less akward than in Gta Online, probably because they act less robotics, but yeay, in 2019 it's kinda bad

I prefer silent protagonists or if we can choose the voice and dialogue choice

Oh my god. Arthur's voiced in Singleplayer just like Micheal, Franklin and Trevor were in GTAV, because they're protagonists who need to communicate with the player indirectly. Your online characters do not. They represent you, specifically the player you. There is no need for them to ever speak because their thoughts are exactly your thoughts. And because their thoughts are your thoughts, if they ever spoke, they'd break the 4th wall.

It definitely was not done to "save money". Every other living character in the game is voiced and voiced well. It wouldn't have cost much in comparison to hire some male and female voice actors and have them record what few lines are required for the short online story and various freeroam voicelines (which have all of the other participating characters voiced). They just let the players' online characters be a reflection of themselves rather than giving them a pre-existing person with history and personality.

So were the characters in Saints Row, but they still spoke.

Saints row was not made by Rockstar, Saints Row 4's Co-op mode was still just the regular story missions and in Saints Row 3 Co-op is barebones at best.

Saints Row is made by a small studio pretty much doing what they want. If they can do it, so can a studio that owns a large-ass portion of the video game industry's stock.

Well, the NPCs do have fun referring to the fact that you're the "silent type." It _is_ kind of weird after having a voiced protagonist in the single player game though. Still, I don't mind. What actually irks me more is how they can't seem to keep the NPCs quiet when there's no need for them to say anything. I actually had to turn off the sound to avoid going insane when setting up my character, because I couldn't stand how the sheriff kept making inane comments. He was incredibly annoying.

It's almost like you didn't even read what they said.

It's like my point went over your head. Silent protagonists are a dying breed, and these ones barely even count as that because they lack even basic body language in cutscenes. Every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ multiplayer mission is a one sided conversation. FFS, Fallout 4 took time to adapt to this, although they didn't need to because their dialogue isn't a bunch of cutscenes, but choosing what to say and hearing the response, but even that'd be better than a silent character just creepily staring like a dog with diarrhea ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on the floor. The game does have dialogue choices in SP, they don't need to be voiced, but FFS I'm tired of playing as a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ plank of wood with even less emotion than Kirsten Stewart.

Even the characters in dialogue seem weirded out that you don't talk. FFS, one of thel criticisms for the first Saints Row game was the lack of player dialogue (except for every gang's last mission), which is why Saints Row 2 and onward have it. And yet GTA and RDR2 do it and I'm not allowed to point it out? They scream and whistle, but they can't have a natural human interaction like this?

At first i was, but after Cripps, Fike and Marcel are talking far to much every darn Mission I'm happy about it.
Artok Dec 15, 2019 @ 12:33am
OP, yes annoyed.

It's nothing in comparison of Arthur's voice. Not to mention Marcel's.

I ran the "waiting tutorial" (story) but couldn't continue due to it for a good part.

As some mentionned, dubbing audio is important for non-english people (we, foreigners, are used to Pierce Brosnan voice in our language).
