Perfect squirrel
So, spent about two hours chasing squirrels around, trying to get a perfect and using small game arrows. It seemed pretty impossible. It was taking 3-4 arrows to kill one and I was sneaking, I know I hit a few in the head but they were just not dying. So I tried the scent hider lotion or whatever it is, got a perfect on the next squirrel I shot like 10 seconds later.

Has anyone got the perfect pelt without the scent hider? I was shooting from pretty damn close before I used it, so that has me wondering if the scent hider is required for tiny game or was it making the small game arrows do more damage. I had assumed it was meant to be used on dangerous predators only but guess not. Consider this a PSA/Question/Confirmation.

Varmint rifle to the head has always yielded perfect squirrels for me. Granted this is online so i'm unsure if there is a difference in weapons required for certain game

Always use the varmint rifle for small game and press the identify button when you aim at an animal first there you can see the quality of the pelt

I haven't tried yet as I let my bow in weapon chest...

Normally, shouldn't you only knock it with one arrow and then go to him and kill it by breaking its neck ?

When you use the binocs and read the info it says you have to use the small game arrows for the clean kill. There's 4 categories of animals, tiny, small, medium and large or something like that.

Yeah but you have to craft them and a varmint rifle can handle this too always check the quality before you shoot

I thought you had to use the bow with small game arrows. I collected 3 perfect squirrels just last night, 1 shot each. One squirrel took 2 shots, and his quality was poor. I didn't bother checking their quality prior to shooting since they're tricky to sneak up on sometimes. I'm playing regular story mode. I'm not masking my scent, either.

Note that there are different species. They may have different health. The 3 perfect that I collected were black squirrels in eastern New Hanover.

you can just ride around the woods and shoot them from the horse with dead eye.

You need to kill in 1 shot, if binoculars say small game arrows, use small game arrows, if a head shot won't kill the squirrel then you are to far away or you did not use full bow strength.

Varmint rifle won't give you a perfect kill, not even with a scope for a squirrel.

Just start doing a mission. I'm sure you'll see plenty.

Small game arrows wont damage the pelt, but it's really hard to shoot a squirrel perfect, best bed is as someone mention before is using dead eye and be patient, best is to use some bait to attract them because when they eat it they sit perfectly still.

Ignore advice from people that say they hunt them in multi play because nobody hunt them in multi play because it's not worth the money or time.

Small game arrow worked for me. Varmint rifle ruined 3 squirrel pelts so switched to bow, the rifle seems to work on pretty much every other small thing, so far, though. Story mode.

Ducks you need small game arrows for to for perfect ones, but when using a riffle, it loose only 1 star whit head show, you can still get a 2 star with a Rolling Block rifle when using basic ammo, give some nice feathers to use for xp as trader.
