how to keep that panther perfect?

I finally had a 3 star panther in sight, 100% sure I hit it from up close between the eyes, but now it has only 2 stars. I'm using a Lancaster with express ammo. What am I doing wrong?

Express ammo and the Lancaster . . .causing high damage. Use a bolt-action with regular ammo or a bow with poison arrows . . .I've got a half-dozen with those and never damaged any . . .

Using a repeater was your mistake. Use a rifle for big animals like panthers, bucks, gators, bison and the such.

When using the binoculars and press a certain key/button to get the information of the animal you are hunting, it will tell you which weapon you can use to keep the animal integrity intact.

Pretty sure you have found the trend in responses. Must use the appropriate weapon for the animal.

how can you not see that you can simply press Q when you aim at an animal to see what weapon to use on them?

you need a rifle like a bolt action etc to get perfect on panthers.

Use High Velocity ammo, not Express. Express adds too much Damage %
So far the Rolling-Block Rifle and Carcano Rifle are better for the stronger animals. Carcano just in case more then one shot is needed quickly.
