RockStar Games: Modders/Hackers have totally ruined the experience.
I can not log in for RDR2Online without modders/hackers ruining Events, Solo Play, Storyline, or other game play styles such as the Naturalist, etc. I have over 30 years of SW development, and I am asking please stop these hackers. It will ruin the game for regular folks interested in the design.

So long as the game remains peer-2-peer, I understand the cheaters and hackers won’t go away. :(

GTA Online suffers from the exact same problem, and that game’s been on PC for nearly a decade.

I hope Rockstar addresses this problem, but I fear that they won’t.

And who knows, maybe they only care about their console audience and PC isn’t even on their radar; that’s certainly how it feels.

Yeah, it seems like there are hacky shenanigans going on in most free roam lobbies that I join, it is becoming rarer to play for an hour without seeing weird cheater stuff, and I gave up on the free roam events and featured series a while ago now, because they are even worse with it.

It has actually become pretty frequent to see more than one cheater battling it out for control over a server with another cheater, I am starting to wonder what the actual percentage of non cheat players it is, or if the game is building server lobbies around one cheater, because it is getting more difficult to just switch, they are everywhere, in everything, like an infestation.

I have finished the Single Player game and started the Online... was enjoying myself when suddenly two or three jerks teleported out of nowhere and trampled my horse to death. When I retrieved it from a stable, it was a Skinny Nag. Then after I moved a bit, I was set on fire and thrown into some pit.

Exited the game and fortunately the career was saved and I was able to resume, although some of the damage remained and I lost my hat.

Its the same all over, give morons an opportunity to be a moron and they take it every time.

Responsibility is with Rockstar... it is not difficult to hack proof a game, just give the players the opportunity to password the server or otherwise restrict to invite only.

Thinking about posting my review of the game as a negative one.

"Invite only" setting would solve my issues with RDO. Such an easy yet undesirable solution for R*.

Original poster, I am as ticked off as you are about griefers/hackers/cheats and spoofers and now use YouTube to publically 'out' them for the gaming community to see and shame. How I do this is simple, all you need do is get some video editing software and use Windows 10 XBOX recording feature to make your own video. You also need to record ALL gameplay from the moment you log in to the moment you log out, with intermittant breaks in the recording when you think it is safe to do so.

I've been using this method for the last five years and in that time have outed more than three hundred griefers and hackers. When you get griefed, relax in the knowledge that the offender's actions are on video and can be used against them. But that isn't everything - you MUST identify their name on the player list AND also bring up their profile and get these on video too.

To these little pukes you are just target practice. When I'm griefed now, I check the name of the abuser and then contact them using the Social Club communications option and DELIGHT in informing them that they were recorded abusing me or using hacks and that the video will be uploaded to YouTube for everyone - and Rockstar Games to enjoy, for you see, bullies and thugs like to remain as anonymous as possible and outing them sort of spoils their fun. it also puts a scare on the real chicken****s among them.

So, record, edit and upload and then forward to RSG any abuse video.

Also, if you get hacked or interferred with and assuming you can do it because you have nothing to lose on your horse, leave the session and go to a fresh one. Ensure that you are in defensive mode and check the server for very low level players or very very high level players with odd-sounding names, or names consisting of dashes (- _ ) spaces or bold text in names, or strings or nonsensical number or letters as these are invaribly hackers of griefers who choose such names so they cannot be identified. Anyone over level 300 is suspect, especially if they don't have a clue how to play. Do not engage these professional idiots, just leave for a new session - its less trouble that way.

To report a griefer, go to this URL: https://support.rockstargames.com/categories/115001624507?step=7364346d and then login. Select the obvious elements, date, game format, and when it comes to posting the video, use a long URL (generated by YouTube) not the short one. Write a short but clear report as to what happened. At the time of the griefing, BLOCK the offender and then press the ESCAPE key and leave the session if possible or if not possible leave the area they are in. Blocking them means they probably won't be in another session with you.

I've been a semi-professional gamer since 1979.

I'm sorry to hear that this happened to you, but if your horse isn't insured in RDR2 online this tends to happen, more so if you do not have a second horse to call when your primary horse is injured badly or killed. The Skinny Nag is there as a temporary solution, but you can improve your odds of surviving such incidents by teaming up with another player who when your horse is injured or killed, get them to take you (double-up on their horse) to the latest stable and retrieve your actual horse.

Sadly the only thing you can do to make life more interesting for griefers is to OUT THEM and also to report them to Rockstar Games. Video your gameplay and when incidents such as this happen, withdraw to a relatively safe location but do not leave the server. Then lookup their name on the players list, make a note of it (or better still a video or screen capture) and then check their profile - sometimes spoofers change their name on the player list to prevent you from identifying them. Fact is, if a person has a private profile it screams ''griefer'' to me as they have something to hide.

Then out them on Youtube, mentioning their player name, their profile name - if different - and send the URL to Rockstar who can verify their activities and deal with them accordingly. YOU do not need to suffer! Make the abusers sweat for a change as nobody, especially them, wants the world to know they are a little puke who has to abuse to get their amusement because they can't play the game as intended, or are so mentally deficient that they can't.

Just had my first experience of a hacker. Usual nonsense, got teleported somewhere along with the entire population of the lobby, galloped off at full speed only to get blown up (killed my horse too), then got immediately teleported again.

I quit at that point as I am not too sure about how to switch sessions having never done it. Tbh I have never needed to until now. No idea who was the culprit as I only saw other players so far as I am aware; no idea how you can identify the cheater. (When I died I apparently killed myself - nope.)
KroniKx187 Feb 24, 2021 @ 8:48am
Yip, I was telported to the Mexico side of the map with the rest of the lobby and this knob was spawning in treasure chests... one mullet was running around opening them and collecting the gold, hope the ban will be worth it as that's the only time rockstar takes action, and it's against the pleb that collects the gold "supposedly" not knowing any better. I just change lobbies after reporting.
SmallArchangel Feb 24, 2021 @ 8:52am
Cheaters pulled that on in GTAO too so I am wise to that method of trying to get players banned. Sometimes it isn't so clear who is behind the hacking behaviours though, so I am not sure how to report it.

Not sure if R* acts on the reports anyway, given the amount of this crap that seems to go on.
Twitchey Feb 24, 2021 @ 8:58am
And sometimes it is a lot more subtle than a mass teleport into a bunch of chests (I havent seen that one, but I have seen enough mass teleports in general).

I feel for players new to rockstar games, because the cheating can get pretty subtle and dangerous for them, not knowing how things are supposed to function doesn't help either, so just new players in general too.

SWITCHING SESSIONS is simple.

Simply press the ESCAPE key and select ONLINE to go to a new lobby. The average transfer and loading time is around sixty to ninety seconds.

REPORTING abuse is always tricky but there are some clues if you know where to look. On entering any new session, quickly go through the players list. Look or any very low level players with weird names, or names consisting of numbers, letters and dash characters - or names that are in bold text or which have spaces between them as these are invaribly hacked titles.

Also, anyone over level 300 or better still, level 500 plus are suspect as hackers like to give themselves XP and other benefits. Also be suspicious of any player who has any of the combination and a HIDDEN PROFILE, especially if their profile name and the name on the player list do not match.

I really don't need to say this, but any player with dynamite effects on their weapons but who are not using dynamite - hacker, and any player who is RED and therefore is wanted for some reason when at the same time, the world goes whacky is more than likely the primary suspect. RECORD your gameplay and those profile/list names so if you get off-lined, you can still have information to use for reporting purposes.

Wow...I am not the only one that has experienced how modders have negatively affected RDO.
