RDR 2 PC Performance & Stability Issues in 2021
Thinking about purchasing the game, but slightly concerned about the various complaints about performance and stability issues, as well as the Rockstar Launcher. I heard that it was really bad near launch but has improved a lot since then. Be interested to hear your experience on this if any would like to share.

For additional info, I have an i5-9400F and GTX 1660 Ti, and only mostly interested in the single player content.

It is literally the worst time u can pick up the game for PC. There are annoying bugs that can ruin your expierience even in singleplayer. Also there is some weird Rockstar Launcher network issue going on right now what only some guys here seem to have.

your graphics might struggle a bit: i'm at default settings and only running about 60 fps. i put everything to full details and it dropped to 27 fps lol. and im running a founders edition

Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4820K CPU @ 3.70GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.7GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 12
System DPI Setting: 144 DPI (150 percent)
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti
Display Memory: 19200 MB
Dedicated Memory: 11049 MB
Current Mode: 3840 x 2160 (32 bit) (60Hz)

my cpu is a bit dated though

Why do you say worst? Even worse than near launch?

I used to have my share of problems with R* launcher too when I played GTA V, where I had to spend more than 10 minutes every time before I want to play because apparently I could not get the answers right, darn that was annoying, does that also happen here by the way?

Luckily I got it for free from Epic so didn't care too much about it.

Hmm, does default translate to medium, or high, or a mix of both? My monitor only goes up to 1080p, do you think I could get ~60fps with medium-high settings? I don't mind lower framerates though (~40++), as long as they don't fluctuate wildly.

what were RDR2's problems at launch? sorry I already forgot about it and thought on sales start technically it was okay, at least on Steam...?

oh looks like it does some auto scaling, most my settings are set to ultra except a handle full like light, shadow, water refraction. the game was originally made for console. there is some post about playing with the quality and avoiding super low fps.

i think you will be fine as the recommended card in the steam store states: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

Ah yes I forgot about that, if I am not mistaken it was Epic exclusive for a time before launching on Steam?

I'm not sure whether the reviews were talking about the Epic or Steam version but I remember hearing many complaints about the game not launching, poor optimization for high-end rigs, frequent crashes and so on, so much so that many reviewers recommended to wait a little while before getting the game due to those issues.

So in your case, basically you are saying that you are having more issues with the game now than ever before?

I don't have a good pc.. I have;
GeForce GTX 850M
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4710HQ CPU @ 2.50GHz
8.0 GB RAM
4.0 GB VRAM

And I'm running the game around 30 fps with low-mid graphics except for texture quality which is in ultra. I'm not having any major stuttering and whatnot (except for large explosions) and I'm not having problems with Rockstar Launcher (yet other people say that there is) except for one thing. The volume is reaaaaaally low when you open it. So everytime you open the game, you will need to open the "Sound Mixer" or something and turn up the volume of RDR2..

Nice this is really good to see that it’s much more optimized than I see a lot of post about badly optimized, but those were a year or more ago.

The sound problem has been around almost a year, I submitted a bug report earlier. But being a year I don’t get my hopes up.

Also for the sound issue they are doing something very non-standard as in my windows10 sound mixer advanced settings, only game listed is red dead redemption 2 and I have over 30 games installs. They are doing something very non-standard with their sound setup. Actually only apps listed are windows sounds, Mozilla, steam, rockstar launcher, rdr2. So something is very messed up about their sound setup.
hi Jan 27, 2021 @ 12:07am
RDR 2 has received various performance optimizations since launch and I can say that it runs well now.
Afrikano Jan 27, 2021 @ 2:40am
I literally keep crashing constantly for no reason what so ever.
I got this game for free from a friend and I feel so cheated and pissed off I cannot even put it into words.
Keep trying all sorts of "fixes" that don't actually do anything whatsoever, sometimes the game lasts long enough for me to finish one mission but most of the time I get half way through and crash to desktop.

I cannot believe this thing runs like ♥♥♥♥ for some people even after, what, a year since release?
I honestly had high expectations in terms of performance thanks to the time since release but this thing runs for me worse than Cyberpunk, because Cyberpunk never even crashed for me...

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

Ive racked up 140 hours since i started properly playing a couple weeks ago and ive had no issues apart from a stutter every so often, but it is literally half a second or less.

Man I envy you, I really do. I just want to sit down... relax... enjoy the story and I do until it randomly decides to **** probe me with a crash and I just want to curl up and cry
bizarre Jan 27, 2021 @ 5:42am
i have a lower specs than you and get a stable 60-70 fps, lowest drop is 45 on med/high settings and always use ultra textures or else its fugly.
Zuleica Jan 27, 2021 @ 6:01am
I just finished the SP game and experienced absolutely no bugs or even annoying glitches. Gone on to modding it to continue to play.

Now online is a different story. I tried it then found out that RockStar puts you in a peer-to-peer lobby with random internet strangers...NOT good cyber hygiene. So online is not for me. The Rockstar launcher doesn't bother me so much, I just stay away from their moronic online lobby implementation.
