Has anyone caught a non legendary panther/cougar off guard?
Or do they literally spawn with a few seconds before attacking. Ive been hunting south of braithwaite for many many many hours. ran out of deer pee.

And if you have media, Im looking for a 2 minute vid not some hour long lets play .

Thanks!

if it's for Online for a picture to complete the compendium,
use a Blending Tonic, then when you see the yellow "?" on your radar,
sneak with the camera in your hand and you should get a picture np.

alternatives:
sedate the animal first, it will then start running away, and you have a Short time to make a photo.
or
sedate the animal, take the sample, then revive it, it should start running away again, and you can then take the photo.

I killed the Legendary Cougar near Blackwater without dying once myself- got two early hits on him with a Rolling Rock before he saw me and then got him charging me with a repeater. That is good for me- I am not that quick and most of my deaths these days seem to be from cougars.

if you sedate it with a couple of shots it will become passive

He's talking about campaign. It's harder than Legendary Animals online.

If you need it for SP compendium, hit it with poison arrow and it will run away a bit and fall down still alive. You can easily track, study and kill/skin this way.

Also sleep 72 hours to refresh animals, save game near the area and if you get wrong type of panther reload.

Also cougars don't spawn in that area, it's only panthers/florida panthers.

I've killed them while they were chasing NPC's.

Blending tonic and predator bait should really catch it off guard. I did that in the photo challenge mode. Good points if you can capture something else in the shot as well.

Up above the falls in the north east area of the map, you can find some positions on the east side of the river looking back across to the other side where there are large clearings on both the north and the south sides of the railroad tracks. Find a nice spot and just scan the terrain across the river with eagle eye. I got one today (rolling block, never knew what hit him) walking along the riverbank from the "Willard's Rest" location, directly across the river, and I got another one from the N.E. side of the railroad bridge across the river on the south side at the tree stump where you find the vulture eggs, in online mode. There's also a good place a bit further S.E. up on the trail, from that little peak looking down, but you don't have near as much space. Another place is south of Annesburg. There's a large open beach area where I have shot quite a few cats walking around there, each never realizing that I was hunting them. These are some of the easier locations, for me anyway, that you can spot these cats without them spotting you first, and you can easily get one after another all day long.

I once did by accident in the swamps. I was shocked. It was lying by a tree, hidden around some bushes.

Yes, in single player it does happen. I can only think of one time it happened though, so it's also true that the player is typically the main course when the cougar spawns.

That one time, I spotted a cougar stalking something else. Open ground, full profile, it was quite a treat to see.
