It's a good idea to always have a save slot that you update often for things just like that.
Why would you buy an Arabian?
You can find one for free in St Dennis (Black one)
and a White one out in the Northern Snow region.
Once tamed take it back to a stable and "Stable" it into a slot.
Then saddle it up and go break it in until you reach level 4 bonding with it.
If you don't manually save as you go, well that's on you, as YOU MUST do that and as often as you feel needed. Always do it after you are happy with progress, purchases made, etc. Missions can be replayed later on if you wish after beating them. However purchases of items, horses, saddles, guns/upgrades are critical as far as your money is concerned so be sure to save before buying stuff, then afterwards. This way if you made a purchasing mistake you have a save right before making a major purchase to fall back on.
When that switching back to a default horse happened to me I went back to a save.
But I did read online that if you take the default horse outside the town and shoot it, your original horse will be returned. And the second option was as said above, steal the one in St Denis.
yeah, I was ready to sprint over to where I died, but there was nothing on the map and my saddle was on the default horse. I went over to the stable and my other two horses were there, but no arabian.
So that IS your horse.
Overall best bet, just reload the older manual save, even if it takes you back a bit. Lesson learned. Save manually more often, never use the Auto save to back-track with.
No need to ever buy an Arabian in Story Mode, it's free, just find it, tame it, level 4 bond with it, take it to Stable to actually save it. Then saddle it.
I always move around the story mode with 2X level 4 bonded horses, its very easy to do this. However only one is your true horse, the one with your saddle on it. I use the 2nd horse I help me carry more killed animals back, such as one for food and one that is just a large skin, such as from Bear, Moose, etc.
But seriously, just look up the Map Online.
Depends on the horse. Shouldn't have to feed it unless the Cores (the white part inside the circle) is dropping past 75-50%
How good those are will depend on the actual Horse breed and your Bonding Level. As the overall stats raise up a bit with each bonding level. It's maxed out once you reach a full bond level 4.
What helps is having at least some lvl 1 stamina booster elixir crafted and use them if you need to do any racing or make a really long non-stop trip with your horse. As the outer white bar reaches very low (don't let it run out) then apply the elixir and it will restore the outer ring and turn to yellow for a while. However if you perform high stamina movements with it, such as alot of jumps, the yellow bar will return to white rather quickly. But otherwise it will help to not only give a full restore to the outer ring, but a good amount of time before it will start dropping again due to actively running.
Every chance you get it does help to Calm and also Brush the Horse.
Dirt and Blood degrades its coat and this effects the health dropping more rapidly over time if you neglect to brush the horse. The best thing to feed it is Wild Carrots, which you can easily find all over the map. If you run out, feed it Hay, as this is very cheap to stock up on at Stables, but also does a good job at restoring both Cores.
Manually save often, such as prior to starting any interactions with white dots or with various characters, starting a mission, etc. This way you'll have a manual save to fall back on should things go terribly wrong and overall you wouldn't be set back too far if you make a proper habbit of doing this. Never rely on the "AutoSave"
If you are in a mission and rage-quit or whatever. Or just find yourself exiting the game without manually saving to a slot, the autosave will most likely be used often enough to where the next time you load up the game and continue story mode, the autosave is what will be loaded. If you wish to avoid the game loading from the autosave upon next game launch, go to the folder where it saves the save-game-slots and delete #15 prior to launching the game. This will then load the last manual save you made instead.
