'Unable to launch game. Please verify your game data'
It worked just fine and dandy earlier this week. Nothing changed, except for a windows update, and the game not working.
I have:
Verified integrity of game files.
Reinstalled the game (a three hour download)
And then verified integrity again.
Rolled back the windows update.
Reinstalled it again.
Installed the optional windows update
Updated my graphics drivers.
Updated BIOS, because someone on reddit said that fixed the problem for them.

What else can I do?
Why is it doing this?
Is it fixable?
Can I claim a refund even after hundreds of hours of gameplay, because the game suddenly quit working?

Your not alone OP, I spent almost two days trying to get my game to work, I played it for a few days back in june/july of last year before getting back into EVE, and Atlas, and the Division with my friends. Decided to pick it back up and haven't gotten past the social club/rockstar launcher screen!

That included multiple verifications of the game files, updating windows, updating my display drivers, updating (ultimately reinstalling Rockstar), set both .exe and app files to run as admin (tried one then the other, then both), as well as Steam itself, set RDR2.exe as an exclusion for both Windows Firewall and Malwarbytes, even turned off anti-virus....the only thing I haven't tried and am hesitant to, is update my BIOS! even blew two hours with Rockstar Support basically them telling me to do the same things I already did, all to no avail.

The only thing I can think of and have since deleted it entirely, was I had Lenny's Simple Trainer installed and it got outdated so game would not work, and one time I accidently launched online with the trainer on, but immediately backed out of it (I only ever play story mode) dunno if that did anything or not.

Personally I think they need to make Social Club, and Rockstar Launcher optional, we dont pay them for it's use so it makes no sense to need a separate launcher just to play. Kinda gave up, I hope you have better luck than I did!

It isn't. As I said, it worked fine before. It worked fine ON MONDAY. 15/03/21. Then it suddenly didn't.
I was at ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 97.4% completion!

Update: I FIXED IT! I MENDED SOMETHING!

REPLYING TO MY OWN THREAD FOR POSTERITY OF FUTURE GENERATIONS GOOGLING THIS ISSUE!

To fix this, I tried running the Rockstar launcher separately, which failed. I then uninstalled it, verified game files, and reinstalled it from the website. That got it working, but it didn't find RDR2.

Then I set both it and Steam to run as administrator, and rebooted. And it runs! It found my save!

(And as a note to future me, your Rockstar account is linked to your old Hotmail account, not Gmail.)
