I would also like to see the donkey and mule as mount options, give them extra carcass and pelt storage to compensate their crappy stats, not that I would use that pelt storage online with how much of a target it makes you to cheaters, but the option would be nice at least.
Zebras are not something you'd generally find in United States outside of Zoos
You can find donkeys and mules at various farms (without saddles) and there's a donkey with a saddle from one of the fameseeker random events.
It could be rare like the lion from story mode.
Or it could be like the "zonkey", a mule painted with stripes, from RDR1 multiplayer or that one RDR2 story mission.
Also, there are a bull and buffalo mounts in RDR1 multiplayer as well.
Would be interesting if you could lasso and tame other big animals to ride.
E.g. moose, elk, oxen or even something crazy like rams and boars.

Because by your logic, unlocking the fast travel post in your camp through the Trader role would be grindy and complicated then as well.
