I hate this game so much
Freedom? My ass freedom, the missions on this game are on rails how linear they are. (except a couple of main missions)

So i'm on the train with the lovers from the slave plantations, right... I figure to shoot only the pursuers horses so as not to unnecessarily kill their cousins. But do this and Beau 100% of the time dies of heart attack before the next scene where you drive the train. So yep, gotta kill me some cousins.

Then, i'm driving the train right, and horse is running alongside with legendary pelt on his back and stubs his toe on the train tracks and decides now is a good time to die. Instead of having the option to jump out of the train and kill myself to reload my horse back to life, the game decides I have to keep driving the train because I am too dumb to make my own decisions apparently.

Damn... they really botched this game up a lot, huh? Still good though but wtf Rockstar get your act together.

I think you got the wrong post there, buddy. This isn't a post for snowflakes.

Anyway, I figured out how to reload checkpoint by abandoning the mission via the log menu.
No thanks to Mr Snowflake here...

Hmm I have the opposite experience. It seems to me like most missions give you a fair degree of freedom, and there are only a handful that are on literal rails (because that's how the story was scripted)

The cousins dying is part of the story though. IIRC there's even dialogue in the following cutscene about Beau being the last of his family.

When it's part of the actual storyline, it's no wonder why the game doesn't allow you the freedom to bypass that event. The cousins have to die.

Imagine a scene where X character has to die, and all the dialogue afterwards is the group mourning the loss of X character. It would be pretty broken if you could "save" that character and then get all the dialogue of them being dead.

Or you could just use the menu. No need to kill yourself first.

so mad, so bad.

Not saying the OP is bad or anything of the sort, at all. I'm usually the one to blame..

It's just been my own personal observation about RDR2 that when I think something is designed poorly (so far at least) it has been my own fault or my inability to see the big picture that's the problem.

Other than a few wonky control designs, and Arthur putting weapons away during critical moments of the game, the devs put a ton of thought into crafting such an epic masterpiece. Almost 99% of the time when I thought, Hey this would be cool to be able to do.. It's in there already, I just didn't see it.

I'm confused - you got that far along in the game and thought killing horses was the right answer ?

And THAT is the mission that drives you to rant ?

Peace pal - the game definitely has issues.

The game is restrictive, yes. The game is badly designed, no. It was on purpose to tell a specific narrative, kinda counterintuitive to the whole open world idea but during story mission you are at the mercy of the developers and writers, in this game and other story focus games.

Did you try playing the open world smoothbrain?

10x better than gta 5's missions, how come I never see people complaining about that?

I mean, it's their cousins... And I'm helping them. Don't you think killing their cousins is a bit counterproductive? That's why i attempted to beat the train scene some 15 times by just killing the horses. But doing that ends in failure as Beau dies mysteriously everytime before the train stops if you do that... I mean come on.
